Pollock rules out Villeneuve CART return

Champ Car team boss Gerald Forsythe has hinted that he is chasing Villeneuve for 2003. His eponymous outfit is sponsored by Player's and the cigarette company would like a star name for what will be its last season of sponsorship in motorsport.

But Pollock told BBC Sport Online that Villeneuve intends to stay with British American Racing in F1.

"Jacques is in F1, he has his contract in F1 and has no intention of doing anything else," Pollock stated.

"To take a F1 world champion to CART would cost an absolute fortune. Why would he do it? You're finishing your career."

Villeneuve made his name in CART, winning both the title and the Indianapolis 500 before switching to F1 in 1996. He drove for a team co-owned by Forsythe and Barry Green.

But Pollock said that Villeneuve would not consider a return unless it was for "something incredible - a lot more than he is earning at the moment." Villeneuve is due to earn around £13 million for his final season with BAR, if he chooses to race on alongside new team-mate Jenson Button.

Pollock added that Villeneuve "is not aware of" Forsythe's apparent interest. "He is on holiday and I have no intention of spoiling his holiday with rumours like this," he said.
