Renault gutted with fourth row slots
The Renault squad, which had such high hopes for qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix, admitted it was disappointed with what Jarno Trulli and Jenson Button achieved on Saturday - but both drivers blamed Sauber's Felipe Massa for getting in the way
Having topped both the Thursday and Saturday free practice timesheets, Trulli could only manage the seventh fastest time, one place ahead of Button.
"Seventh position is disappointing when I was expecting to be in the top four," said Trulli. "My first run was my only clear lap, and after that I hit traffic every time. Twice, Massa's Sauber didn't move out of the way, even though he was just cruising around. I'm very angry about it."
Button was also livid about Massa's on-track manners: "I made a mistake on my third run, so I couldn't improve then, but the problem at the end was Massa. He slowed me down, just as for lots of people, apparently. Something needs to be done about it."
Technical director Mike Gascoyne added: "We are disappointed as we expecting more from qualifying. Up to now we have had a competitive weekend, and now we look to reinforce our position during the race."
