Schuey Jr annoyed with himself

The German retired his Williams after the car's BMW motor blew on the last lap. His earlier mistake meant that he was lying 11th at the time.

"It definitely wasn't my day today," he said. "First I made a silly mistake, which I do very seldom and that's why I am so angry about it. In the turn before the pitlane entry I went off and damaged some parts of my car, so I had to pit and that effectively ended my race."

Schumacher had to pit again after that for a new nose section too.

Juan Pablo Montoya gave Williams some cheer by finishing second, albeit 35 seconds down on race winner Michael Schumacher. "I am very pleased with my second place, mostly because we struggled the whole weekend here," said the Colombian.

"Even if we are a bit behind Ferrari, this was the best we could do today. In the second stop I hit my chief mechanic who was trying to stop me after he started to lift the lollipop as the refuelling wasn't finished yet.

"I know he is alright now, but this accident could have had a much worse outcome if I hadn't managed to stop the car fairly quickly."

The mechanic, Carl Gaden, escaped with bruising to his foot.
