McLaren driver David Coulthard was happy after benefitting from other's retirements to score his second podium of the season at Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix.
"I think when we spoke on Friday I said that we didn't expect it to be an easy circuit for us, and I knew that the only way I was going to get a podium or dream of a podium was if other cars had reliability problems," said Coulthard after the race.
"I am happy to have benefited from that and I had an interesting battle early on with Jenson (Button). And that was it. That was the only excitement in the race."
Coulthard had qualified down in seventh place for today's race, but benefitted from the problems of Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello and Williams's Ralf Schumacher, two of the favourites to finish on the podium in Sunday's race at Barcelona.
Despite Coulthard's third place finish, the McLaren team continued with their reliability problems, with Finn Kimi Raikkonen losing the rear wing of his car while running in the points.
"I don't know why but all of a sudden my rear wing failed on the straight on lap four when I was in fourth position and that was the end of my race," said the Finn. "I know the team will investigate what caused the problem. It's one of those things that happen very rarely so I don't worry too much about it."
It was the fourth consecutive retirement for Raikkonen, who has only finished the season opening Australian Grand Prix.
