Barcelona test, day 4: Irvine on top
Eddie Irvine set the quickest time of this week's Barcelona test today (Thursday) - behind the wheel of last year's Jaguar. Meanwhile, the new R3, driven by his team mate Pedro de la Rosa, was over four seconds off the pace.
New McLaren signing Kimi Raikkonen had his best day of testing with the team so far and was only three-tenths of a second off the Ulsterman's best.
Although the test ended early because the medical helicopter was called away, the afternoon session proved to the quickest of the week so far. The track dried up, allowing the teams to complete low fuel runs for out-and-out pace.
The day passed without major incident. Rookie Felipe Massa continued to acclimatise himself to Formula 1, but his test was blighted by a number of spins.
Once again, new boys Toyota propped up the bottom of the field. Mika Salo took over from Scot Allan McNish as the team continue to rack up miles in the new TF102.
