Wilson out to prove his doubters wrong

Formula 3000 International champion Justin Wilson says he is determined to prove his critics wrong and force his way into Formula 1

Speaking at the AUTOSPORT International show at Birmingham's NEC today (Thursday), Wilson aired his frustration that he has been overlooked by F1 team bosses just because of his lanky frame.

"It gets annoying that people think I'm too tall," he said. "It is frustrating. At the end of the day, I fit in racing cars and I'm quick enough.

"They seem to think that because I'm tall all my weight is higher up. They think taller equals heavier, equals slower. The only way to prove them wrong is to win, and that's what I've done."

Despite missing out on a Jordan drive this year to British Formula 3 champion Takuma Sato, Wilson has set his heart on eventually making it to F1.

"My aim is still to race against the world's best drivers in F1," he said. "At the moment, I'm more likely to be racing in Champ Cars or sportscars next year, but I want to keep my options open at this point."

This week's AUTOSPORT magazine has revealed that Wilson is on the shortlist for a Minardi drive next season and could be up against Mark Webber in a two-way shoot-out for the seat.
