McLaren sets Barcelona launch date
McLaren has announced that it will launch its 2002 contender, the MP4-17, at Barcelona in Spain on January 19
Immediately after its unveiling, the car will begin its first test at the Spanish Grand Prix venue. Race drivers David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen will be on hand on the day, along with test driver Alexander Wurz.
Due to the winter test ban which came into effect after last year's Japanese Grand Prix, McLaren has been hard at work over the winter carrying out simulation tests for the new car. Engine partner Mercedes, meanwhile, has been simultaneously dyno testing its new motor in both Germany and at Ilmor's premises in England.
Jaguar will launch its 2002 car, the R3, in Milton Keynes tomorrow (Friday), which is scheduled to hit the track at Barcelona next week along with new offerings from British American Racing and newcomers Toyota.
The other confirmed launches for this month are Sauber-Petronas in Switzerland on January 25 and Renault in France on the 27th.
