Schuey hopes US GP entertains
Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher says he hopes that this weekend's United States Grand Prix will bring some relief to Americans burdened by grief following the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington earlier this month
Schumacher appeared to get back in his stride at Indianapolis after an off-form performance in Monza nearly two weeks ago. The Ferrari ace set the quickest times early in the day and ended the first day's practice second only to his old sparring partner Mika Hakkinen.
"It was a pretty normal Friday," said the German who needs one more win to equal the record for victories in a single season he currently shares with Nigel Mansell.
"We just did our usual work of adapting the car to the circuit," he added. "There were no particular problems."
Along with many of the drivers, Schumacher is wearing a stars and stripes flag on his helmet this weekend as a mark of respect to the thousands lost in the terrorist atrocities.
"I am happy to be racing here in the USA," said the four-time world champion. "And I hope that this weekend's Grand Prix will entertain the crowd and bring some happiness and relief after the terrible events of a fortnight ago."
