Sauber cans Fassler test
Sauber has binned plans to give DTM star Marcel Fassler a Formula 1 test after it was revealed that he would also be testing a McLaren F1 car, courtesy of his tin-top employer Mercedes
Team boss Peter Sauber had promised his fellow Swiss Fassler a test when he won his first DTM race. The 25-year-old duly obliged with a victory at Oschersleben in May and a test was set for Magny-Cours on 5-6 September.
But in a statement issued by the team today, an unwillingness to allow him the opportunity to compare Sauber's Petronas-badged Ferrari V10 with the Mercedes unit was cited as the main reason for cancelling the test.
"The primary reason for this decision (to cancel) is that Marcel Fassler will be testing for the team McLaren-Mercedes two weeks after the test planned with the C20," it said.
"A test with the C20, and in particular with the Petronas engine, only two weeks before a test with McLaren-Mercedes will lead to a direct comparison between the two engines, which is not in the interest of our engine-supplier."
