Button warns not to expect miracles

Jenson Button warned his fans not to expect any massive improvements from him in Sunday's British Grand Prix.

The season of struggle to push his Benetton-Renault into the top 10 is set to continue in front of his home supporters. The 21-year-old said his solution is to get his head down and concentrate on making the most of what he has got. He said he would not be dwelling on his misfortunes.

Last year Button went into the British Grand Prix as the sport's new young sensation, but 12 months on he is yet to make it into the points. The only good news was that on the first day's practice he finally got his nose in front of team mate Giancarlo Fisichella, setting the 19th fastest time while the little Italian was 21st.

But Button said he could not realistically expect the 10-race struggle to get into the top 10 to be any easier at his home event.

"I can't really come here and expect anything to be any different," said Button. "We made a slight improvement in Magny Cours, but it is not a big enough leap yet.

"All I can do is try my hardest with the car I have got this weekend and hopefully I will come out with a reasonable result. It is a little bit disappointing to come here to my home race and be in this position, but that is the way this season has gone for me and there is no point dwelling on it.

"Our position might look terrible on paper," he added, "but realistically I think we are in better shape and that should show in qualifying. On another positive note, I think the practice starts I did felt good."
