Montoya hopes to continue A1-Ring form

The BMW-Williams driver, who was second in the Spanish Grand Prix two weeks ago, has an impressive track record at the Spielberg circuit, which is situated in the heart of the Styrian Alps. He won the 1997 Formula 3000 support race and finished second a year later in the same category.

"I have good memories of the A1-Ring," said the Colombian. "I have raced here twice in F3000 and finished in the top two both times. I am coming to Austria in a confident mood, especially after my second place in Spain."

Despite Montoya's fighting words, the odds are stacked against him. Williams last won the race in 1997 when Jacques Villeneuve triumphed from pole and set fastest lap while Jenson Button was fifth last season on his debut. Nigel Mansell won the race in 1987 for Williams.

"On paper it doesnt look like a good track for the team as our results over the last couple of years have not been very good," added Montoya. "In reality, we have definitely improved our entire package and we are looking forward to demonstrating that on the circuit.

"We have had a positive test in Valencia and I hope we can see the results here in Austria."
