Ralf's podium challenge hits the skids
Ralf Schumacher failed to repeat his Imola victory as he slid out of Spanish Grand Prix while fourth because of suspected electronic gremlins.
The Williams-BMW driver, who won in style two weeks ago, had completed 20 laps of the Circuit de Catalunya and was in with a chance of finishing on the podium when his car suddenly skidded sideways into the gravel at Turn 10.
"I don't know exactly what happened yet, but it could have been something to do with the electronics," said Schumacher as he got back to the pits. "We have had problems with the electronics all weekend, but it is too early to say at the moment.
"I was going totally straight, and then I touched the brakes and the rear came out. There was something quite strange going on. Maybe I simply locked the rear brakes. I don't know."
He added: "These things happen. It is a shame because I was relatively safe in fourth."
Williams has had troubles with its new high-tech systems all weekend and Schumacher switched off his traction control for qualifying, saying he would not use it for the race either.
