Burti faces crucial baptism at Prost
Luciano Burti's first half dozen Grands Prix for the Prost team will be crucial to his chances of retaining his race seat for 2002, according to this week's Autosport magazine
Burti, who quit Jaguar Racing last Thursday, replaces Gaston Mazzacane in Prost's line-up from this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix onwards.
Although the Brazilian's deal is for 2001 only, he is expected to hold discussions with team management at the British Grand Prix in July. His progress with the team between now and then will be vital to his 2002 options.
"I have to get to know the team and they have to get to know me first," he said. "Maybe in three or four races we can start thinking about next year.
"I took the right decision. I have no complaints about Jaguar. They did a good job for me, but they don't have a place for me next year, so the best thing was to come here where I can see a future," he added.
Like Pedro de la Rosa, who replaced him at Jaguar, Burti has played down his chances for this weekend's Spanish GP.
"Barcelona is not going to be easy," he said. "I don't have a set-up ready for my style, so it will be a big initiation. After Spain, we can start making improvements."
