Championship standings: McLaren closes the gap
David Coulthard's second place in the San Marino Grand Prix promotes the McLaren driver to joint first in the drivers' standings, alongside reigning world champion Michael Schumacher.
Coulthard's consistent finishing - he's been on the podium for all four races so far - has enabled the Scot to challenge Schumacher's supremacy at the top of the standings, however the German has won two races to Coulthard's one and so keeps the top spot in the table.
Ralf Schumacher's maiden win in San Marino means that he is now fourth, just two points behind Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello.
The Prancing Horse keeps its lead in the constructors' competition, although the gap between it and second placed McLaren is down to 10 points following the Silver Arrows' second and fourth places in San Marino.
