Williams calls for step up in security
The Williams team has requested armed police at traffic lights around the Interlagos circuit, which is hosting this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix, after two attacks on team personnel have taken place in two days
An armed man tried to hijack a van full of Williams engineers on the way home from the circuit on Thursday night, while Minardi team manager Tony Lees was robbed of his watch and sunglasses after he fought off three attackers.
The Williams engineers escaped because they raced away as the lights changed, and Lees prevented the thieves finding thousands of pounds in cash he was carrying inside his shirt.
Fearing an escalation in the violence, teams have asked for an increased police presence for the rest of the weekend. Motorsport's governing body, the FIA, has confirmed they have had a request and the approach has been passed on to the circuit organisers.
Minardi have already complained officially about security after tyres and wheel rims were stolen from outside the garage and the Jaguar team were relieved of six laptops worth £10,000.
