Toro Rosso confirms Gasly/Kvyat for US GP after Sainz Renault exit
The Toro Rosso Formula 1 team has announced Pierre Gasly will drive in the United States Grand Prix, while Daniil Kvyat will return in place of Renault-bound Carlos Sainz Jr
It follows the announcement that Jolyon Palmer will leave the Renault team after Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix, with Sainz being drafted in to partner Nico Hulkenberg for the remainder of the season.
Sainz was already set to race for Renault in 2018, however Toro Rosso said he would leave the team "earlier than originally planned" because "circumstances have changed".
Toro Rosso has chosen to keep Gasly, who replaced Kvyat in Malaysia and this weekend in Japan, in place for Austin, meaning he will miss the opportunity to win the Super Formula title at Suzuka.
Toro Rosso said Kvyat had been recalled to the race seat for the United States race, but did not specify a plan for its line-up for the remainder of the season.
"I would like to thank Carlos for all his efforts over almost three Formula 1 seasons," said Toro Rosso team boss Franz Tost.
"He always did his very best, demonstrating an excellent attitude and commitment to his work, which helped him and us to get some great results during that time.
"Therefore, on behalf of everyone at Toro Rosso, I wish him all the very best with his new team.
"We look forward to beating him on track."
Sainz said competing in the final four races of the season would help with his preparation ahead of his full-season debut with the team in 2018.
"First of all I would like to thank Toro Rosso and Red Bull for allowing me the possibility of finishing this season with Renault Sport Racing," he said.
"More specifically, I really want to thank all my engineers and mechanics for their support and tremendous work throughout these years.
"Toro Rosso is made up of a fantastic group of people and I wish them only the best for the future.
"On my side, I will definitely do my very best in tomorrow's race. This would be the best possible send-off.
"Additionally, competing in these last four races with Renault gives me a good opportunity to get to know the team and the car earlier than expected.
"I am looking forward to start working with them."
