German GP: Susie Wolff hopes for more outings after strong showing

Susie Wolff believes her impressive performance in practice for the German Grand Prix has boosted her chances of more Formula 1 action in the future

The Williams driver recovered from an early session scare, when an electronic glitch nearly stranded her out on track during her first lap, to end practice just two tenths of a second slower than team-mate Felipe Massa.

Well aware that there was so much focus on her performance as the first woman to take part in an F1 session for 22 years, her speed just a fortnight on from frustration at the British Grand Prix has left her hugely encouraged about her prospects.

"There was so much hype around Silverstone because it was going to be historic - but for me actions speak louder than 1000 words," she said.

"I am asked so often: Am I good enough? Are women good enough? Are women strong enough? For me, when the helmet is on and I am out there, I am no different to anyone else driving - and I had to show that.

"I missed that chance at Silverstone with all the hype around, so it was so important to be able to do the performance here and let the rest take care of itself.

"I felt ready, but as we all know, it is a tough environment here. Getting the chance is not going to be easy, but for me it was definitely a massive step forward on my journey."

Wolff's driving role with the team will be limited to simulator work for the near future, but she is hoping to get further outings in the car at some point.

"The team was happy with my performance, so that was an important step in the right direction. Now I have to see what is possible.

"It will be difficult this season to get any more time in the car, that is clear, but that is next on my to do list."
