F1 United States GP Live Commentary and Updates - Race day

Minute-by-minute updates for the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas

Carlos Sainz, Ferrari F1-75

The 2022 F1 world title might be decided after Max Verstappen clinched the drivers’ crown in Japan last time out, but there’s still plenty at stake and many talking points both off and on the track.

Red Bull can clinch the F1 world constructors’ title at the Circuit of the Americas if it outscores Ferrari by 19 points this weekend, although Carlos Sainz starts the race on pole from Max Verstappen

Elsewhere, Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez will battle for the runner-up spot in the drivers’ standings, with just a point separating the pair with four races to go - but the two will contend with grid penalties at the start.

Perez and Leclerc, who both had grid penalties remember, are making good progress up the order. The Red Bull driver is up to sixth and the Ferrari is ninth - both gained three places in the opening two laps.
Sainz pits at the end of the first lap with a suspected puncture - but his race is over as he is wheeled into the Ferrari garage with heavy damage.
Stroll has made his way up to third, as Russell is trying to fend off Vettel - so reason suggests it may have been Russell who hit Sainz at the start.
Vettel makes an incredible start to charge up to fifth place! Lots of bumping and barging in the back of the pack!
Verstappen gets a better start than Sainz, and Sainz is spun around by a Mercedes and drops all the way to the back! Nightmare for the polesitter!
Everyone's lined up...and the 2022 United States Grand Prix is away!
The formation lap is away. 440,000 in attendance over the weekend, according to the graphic on-screen - that's impressive.
Tyre news: mediums for all, except Magnussen, Alonso, Schumacher and Ocon.
Risk of rain for the race, you'll be glad to know, is 0%. Hamilton's had a change to his brakes before the race, presumably having not liked the feel on the way to the grid.
The wind is continuing to maraud the circuit, as the temperature sits at 28.5 degrees C. That'll certainly be a factor, and could catch a few drivers out today.
Leclerc starts 12th having taken a new internal combustion engine and a new turbo, while Perez will start ninth with a new ICE. There's also a series of penalties for Alonso, Zhou, Ocon and Tsunoda.
Just over half an hour until the race gets underway, so we've got a little bit of time to talk about everyone's favourite subject: grid penalties.
Well, hello y'all, and welcome - you're here for the Autosport Live updates for F1's US GP, and we aim to oblige.
