F1 Singapore GP Live Commentary and Updates - Race day

Minute by minute updates from the F1 Singapore Grand Prix

Heavy rain

Charles Leclerc took pole for the 2022 edition of the race at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, capitalising when concerns over fuel ended Max Verstappen's chances of snatching it late on.

Verstappen can win the title if he takes victory in Singapore and Leclerc finishes lower than eighth, but thousands of other permutations will apply once the 61-lap race begins.

Sergio Perez starts on the front row in a closely contested battle for pole, as Lewis Hamilton was half a tenth away from the pole time. He starts in third, alongside Carlos Sainz.

Verstappen has a really poor start off the line, loses a handful of places and is down to 12th place!
The 2022 Singapore Grand Prix is go! Perez gets away and gets the lead down the inside! Hamilton is wide at Turn 1 and that lets Sainz into third!
And after an hour (and a bit)'s wait, the formation lap is away!
10 minutes to go, and a reminder of your front few grid spots: It's Leclerc from Perez, Hamilton from Sainz, Alonso from Norris, Gasly from Verstappen, and Magnussen from Tsunoda. Russell starts from the pitlane after an engine change.
Thanks for all of your suggestions, and we've posted our favourites on the Autosport.com Live feed. We're going to focus up on the actual F1, as the start's not too far away!

I'm having a go at my own game, and I'm choosing these:

Drivers: Heinz-Harald Frentzen / Kamui Kobayashi, Test driver: Olivier Panis, Car: Jordan 199, Mascot: Noel Fielding in a llama costume.

Mr. Ebrey's opted to put all of his repair bill into the testing programme:

Newbold has been typically Newbold, and we're here for it. The losing driver in the championship gets gunged.

30 minutes until the formation lap begins - we've got cars heading out to the grid on wet boots. Verstappen tried the inters on a recon mission, and ended up in an escape road.
The selection of Ron as a harbinger of serendipity is a categorically logical and optimal decision. Clark and Hamilton in the MP4/4 would also be a sight to behold.

Big fan of the '80s Lotus vibes, sadly the hat never brought much luck to the Tony Fernandes Lotus 'revival'...

a) absolutely guarantee Frank Williams would have loved that line up, and b) best mascot yet.

Ben is a man after our own hearts. Ricardo Rosset once tried to buy the T97/30 some years on, but it was far too expensive! What price infamy?

Wonder how Fernando would feel being benched? F2004 an excellent choice of car.

We've got a belter to kick us off from @degleuf, who's picked Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna as drivers, Pedro de la Rosa as tester, either the Ferrari F2002 or the Jordan 191 as the car and...Eddie Jordan as a mascot. Is that the real EJ, or someone in an EJ costume?
You can either reply to the tweet on the Autosport Live account with your picks, or call in at 0118 999 881 999 119 725...3.
So we've got another hour to fill, so let's play a game: what's your F1 dream team? You may pick two drivers, one test driver, a car and a team mascot. Go. We'll pick some of the best ones.

Our chief editor and stat enthusiast Kevin Turner has handed us some stats on wet weather winners in F1:

DRIVER WINS
Michael Schumacher 18
Lewis Hamilton 17
Ayrton Senna 13
Jenson Button 7
Juan Manuel Fangio 5
Alain Prost 4
Damon Hill 4
Fernando Alonso 4

Max Verstappen is tied on three with Alberto Ascari, Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Jack Brabham, Emerson Fittipaldi, James Hunt, Carlos Reutemann and Nigel Mansell.

Start procedure will begin at 20:05 local time (so that's 1:05pm for you UK-ists), with formation lap at 21:05 local (2:05pm BST). So, normal service resumes really.
20% risk of rain, according to the FIA notifications board. That's like having a 20% chance to miss a shot in XCOM 2...you always miss.
So, not long until we get another update of further updates to come. And in that further update, we'll maybe get an update of when the start procedure can begin. Or a further further update.
Further update in 15 minutes, according to the FIA's timing board. It's like Belgium again, but this time we don't have to worry about it getting too dark...
We should get some more info in five minutes' time, but there doesn't seem to be too much sign of a let-up.

In other words, it's Singapouring it down. We could be here for a while, you lucky people.
Now, let's kick off with some news - shall we? The start of the Singapore GP has been delayed, because it's absolutely chucking it down out there. It's due to be that way for the next 30 minutes, and by that time we should get another update.
Hello everyone, and welcome to our Autosport Live feed of all things Singapore Grand Prix!
