"It's really low-grip, I locked up there again," complains Verstappen. His advantage now stands at around 2.6s over Leclerc.
At the end of lap 27 Piastri and Sainz are called to the pits together, with Norris staying out to lead. Through that sequence Leclerc has jumped back ahead of Piastri.
Russell ticks another move off his hitlist by sweeping around Ricciardo at T11.
Hamilton now ditches his hard tyres and drops from sixth to ninth, now on mediums. Perez cycles back to P6 after his early stop.
"It's impossible to see the kerb now in the chicane," complains Hamilton. He has Verstappen to thank for that.
Russell spreads the love around the circuit with an overtake on Ocon into T1.
Both Piastri and Sainz set their fastest laps last time around, but Norris is quicker than the pair of them and has got the gap to Sainz down to less than 2s.
Perez's mission continues with an easy move on Tsunoda's RB, down the inside with DRS into T11.
Piastri's lead stands at 2.7s on lap 26, with Norris 2.2s back from the Ferrari man.
Russell comes in but it's a 3.1-second stop. Not ideal and it leaves him behind Ocon upon rejoining.
"This cost a bit compared to Piastri, we need to push a bit more for these laps," Ferrari tells Leclerc. But the Monegasque is comfortable on these tyres and reminds his engineers that it's a long race.
T11 is the action zone today! Ocon makes the move on the Haas.
Hulkenberg has a queue behind him again. Ocon, Gasly and Alonso are trailing as the Aston Martin makes a move into T17.
At the end of lap 23 Verstappen comes in from the lead. He takes hards and rejoins fourth, still comfortably ahead of Leclerc. Piastri cycles to the lead ahead of Sainz and Norris.
And cue the pitstops - Ocon and Alonso the only drivers to profit.
It's to recover the bollard dislodged by Verstappen from the exit of Turn 16. Who will take advantage by pitting?
Verstappen is concerned about striking a cone at the Turn 14-15 chicane and asks his team to check the front wing. It was quite the oversteery moment mid-corner which sent him on an unconventional line over the run-off. He may also have given his floor a bit of a hammering too.
A bold move from Leclerc around the outside of Hamilton at Turn 11 gets the job done and he moves up into fifth.
With Leclerc unable to rejoin ahead of Hamilton, McLaren leaves Piastri out in the hope of clearing the Mercedes. Sainz appears to be following the McLaren driver's strategy.
At the end of lap 19, in comes Leclerc from third, rejoining sixth on a set of hards 1.6s behind Hamilton. Now what will McLaren do with Piastri?
Perez took too long to get past the Alpine - a lap behind Ocon will have helped Norris' case.
Now in clear air, Norris is advised by his engineer to push on and close the gap to Sainz rather than protect against Perez. Norris heartily agrees: "Yeah, agreed. I'll go get him!"
With Hulkenberg out of the way and a number of others pitting, the DRS train has fragmented. Only Perez, behind Ocon, has the advantage.
Verstappen has eked his advantage out to a shade over 3s and appears to be playing a waiting game to see what those behind him will do. No point in pushing too hard to extend the gap and burn up his tyres if those behind extend their opening stint.
Just as Norris was sizing up a move on Perez, the Red Bull blinks first and pits at the end of lap 17. He takes on hards and rejoins P10.
Just as Piastri has all the answers to pressure from Leclerc, so Perez appears to have Norris covered as he continues to soak up probing attacks from the papaya machine behind.
Mercedes' lack of pace compared to the frontrunners is clear to see. Just 16 laps into the race and Hamilton is 10 seconds adrift of Norris in sixth.
Still no sign of a stop from Ferrari. Sainz has dropped back a little from Leclerc, perhaps to save a little tyre wear.
"Box opposite McLaren" is the radio call to Leclerc, but he remains on track for now.
Sainz radios in to his engineer: "Are we going to try something in front or?" He's getting impatient stuck in the wheeltracks of Piastri and Leclerc ahead.
A great battle between Stroll and Albon just before those stops, with the Williams assuming position by going off-track at T11.
Albon quickly gives the position back.
Hulkenberg is the first of the top 10 to pit, two laps short of the target of lap 15.
Haas had to cover the undercut from Stroll, Albon, Sargeant and Bottas, however. Gasly also stops.
Norris meanwhile has caught up with Perez and looks like he fancies a move for fifth as he ducks out of the slipstream on the back straight.
Piastri was actually fractionally quicker than Verstappen last time around. The gap between the two up front remains at 2.7s on lap 13.
Crucial moments in this battle as Hulkenberg locks up early on lap 12 and loses the DRS. that gives Russell all the incentive he needs to make his way into eighth.
Still the Ferraris are unable to do anything about Piastri. Will one attempt an undercut to vault ahead?
Russell tries to replicate his team-mate's move from the previous lap but couldn't make it stick - Hulkenberg holds on, for now.
If at first you don't succeed... Hamilton judges his braking to perfection to get past Hulkenberg at T11.
Everyone between Hamilton in seventh and Sargeant in 15th has DRS, as Albon is the first to pit.
