Verstappen, third: "I had some cool battles out there, racing back up front is always better. For us to have our first podium is really positive. Cool battle with Lewis at the end, we just kept pushing to the line. On a weekend where it's not easy to get things right here, for us to be on the podium is really positive.

"We need to keep working and improve better than our competition, that's our target."

Hamilton, second: "I have to say a huge thank you to my team here. These guys have opened me with welcome arms, it's been a tough year but to finally find our sweet spot and have a good weekend, it's an amazing feeling to be back up here. And I got to have a battle with Max, which was great. I'm so happy, I love this track.

"I think it's definitely encouraging when you look at Mercedes, they brought upgrades, a lot of people brought upgrades here, we brought our big one in Miami. Hopefully we've got some other bits coming our way."

Antonelli, winner of the Canadian Grand Prix: "It was a really fun battle with George, we were pretty much on the limit. It was not easy today, very gusty at Turn 10. It was a shame for him to have the failure because it would have been a very cool battle. But I'll take it.

"When I was on my own, I was trying to really manage the tyres as I started to have some graining on the front left. The tyre was not really biting, but we had good pace when the temperature was coming in."

43 points now between Antonelli and Russell following the latter's retirement. That's quite a hefty lead at this stage, but we've all seen three-figure leads get carved down to nothing...

Colapinto grabs sixth, as Lawson stays ahead of Gasly at the end. Sainz and Bearman complete the top 10.

Kimi Antonelli wins the Canadian Grand Prix!

And once Russell was out of the way, that was his for the taking! Hamilton hangs on to take second, with Verstappen on the podium for the first time this year.

Leclerc will finish fourth, and the twice-penaltied Hadjar in fifth.

Final lap. Antonelli's well ahead of these two, so he'll come round to win this. But who's going to be second?

...and indeed, Verstappen gets a run out of the chicane and tries to put a nose in on Hamilton, but the Ferrari holds it. He's got two laps to get the move done.

Verstappen gets a bit deep in the hairpin, though, which does help Hamilton out.

Hamilton gets a little bit baulked by Bortoleto at the hairpin, which might help Verstappen a little bit here...

Piastri is pushing Bortoleto for 13th, and duly puts a move on the Audi driver for 12th.

Gasly tries to pass Lawson for eighth, but the VCARB sits on the inside of the chicane and holds the place, prompting Gasly to take to the run-off.

Verstappen isn't letting Hamilton go, as the Ferrari isn't able to break away.

Gasly, meanwhile, is right on Lawson's tail. He gets a run down the back straight, but he's too far back.

Hadjar's got a stop-go penalty to serve for his earlier yellow flag infringement.. He's got over 40s on Colapinto, so he'll keep fifth.

Hamilton stays very close through the chicane and fizzes past Verstappen into the opening corner around the outside! It happened at the right time, too, as the yellow flag had just been cleared when Hulkenberg spun.

Verstappen tries to chase out of the hairpin, but Hamilton holds. The Red Bull has managed to hang on.

Hamilton goes tend to get close at the hairpin, and there's an attempt from Hamilton into the chicane. Verstappen holds, but...

Antonelli is over nine seconds clear, with Verstappen seeing off this pressure from Hamilton.

Hamilton has a sniff down the inside, but is too far behind Verstappen. He's a bit further back this time, perhaps to recharge, cool his tyres, and try again.

"I need more power," Hamilton says, who wants something for the back straight.

Bottas gets a five-second penalty for pitlane speeding, which really won't hurt his race as he's four laps down.

Hamilton has another look into Turn 1, but he's too far behind at that point. It's all about sticking within about half a second through the first half of the lap to ensure you've got drive out of the hairpin...

...which Hamiltom indeed does, but the Cadillac of Bottas helps Verstappen out this time.

Antonelli is 6.5s in the lead, with Verstappen now mobilising to deal with this threat from Hamilton.

He's incredibly close out of the hairpin, but a pass is a bit ambitious this time around.

Bortoleto gets pinged for a potential VSC infringement - the stewards are having a busy day.

Hamilton is right on Verstappen's tail, cutting a second out of the Red Bull driver's advantage.

Bit eager into the hairpin there, but Hamilton stays within the second.

And we're back again, and Hamilton is within two seconds of Verstappen.

Leclerc almost slapped the wall of champions, but just kept the car out of the wall. Good news for Hadjar, although he's got 17 seconds to close.

Hadjar pits, he'll have to serve a penalty before he takes fresh tyres. Softs for the Frenchman, as Piastri also pits from 11th to do his own time penalty. Also softs.

Worth a punt, as he wasn't getting points anyway.

Just two seconds between Verstappen and Hamilton now, and the Ferrari is continuing to push.

Stroll's about to get lapped for the 50th time...or was, as it's a VSC again.

Antonelli is 5.7s ahead of Verstappen, who complains that his tyres are cooling down.

Hadjar's caught up to Leclerc again.

Leclerc asks for silence, bar the final lap message and "anything absolutely critical".

Hamilton clears Lawson and has a clear bit of road between he and Verstappen.

"We can do this guys, I'm pushing," Hamilton says. He's 2.4s behind Verstappen now, but has to clear Gasly - who cedes position.

20 laps to go. Gasly's closing in on Lawson now, who might be starting to feel the pinch with the softs.

Verstappen laps Gasly, and he's about to pick past Lawson. Hamilton is closing in.

Antonelli has lost a smidgen of time to Verstappen, who in turn has lost a smidgen of time to Hamilton.

Hadjar, meanwhile, is keeping tabs on Leclerc...although I just typed that, and then outbraked himself at Turn 5.

We have a VSC, with the pitlane closed - presumed debris, and a marshal comes to collect it.

As you were, then, and we start again.

So, we have just 16 cars left. Usual suspects in the top five, with Colapinto, Lawson, Gasly, Sainz, and Bearman in the top 10.

Norris tries to cut through the crowds on his way back to the pitlane.

Hadjar gets a 10-second penalty for his late defence against Leclerc.

Oh, Perez's suspension just went by itself! He was slow anyway, so perhaps he knew there was a problem.

Antonelli's upped the gap to Verstappen to 5.4s now, with Hamilton 3.9s behind the Red Bull.

Hadjar's under investigation for changing direction more than once when defending against Leclerc.

Colapinto's continuing to circulate in sixth, albeit with a broken endplate element on his Alpine. Lawson is 13s behind, with Gasly hoping to catch the Kiwi.

Perez has hit the wall somewhere, with his right-front suspension ruined. Day done.

Antonelli is 6.5s clear of Verstappen, although Perez blocks him during a jumbled blue-flag moment, which costs him about two seconds. Really sloppy from the Cadillac driver there, who was trying to defend from Ocon.

Hamilton, in turn, is 4.2s behind Verstappen.

Norris looks like his day is done, as he peels off the track at the hairpin. "Something's broken, I'm out. Gearbox or something," he reports.

That's his day done in a miserable day for McLaren, as you can hear the gearbox crunch its last out of Turn 9.

The Monegasque sticks with Hadjar, and tries to get an outside pass done at Turn 2 - but doesn't have the traction.

Lots of pressure from Leclerc this time. The Ferrari swings around the outside of the Red Bull and gets back into fourth.

Leclerc wants to clear Hadjar, but Stroll was a bit of a hurdle at the start of the lap.

Hadjar locks up at the hairpin, and puts his car in the centre of the road to cover off Leclerc.
