Norris is now four seconds behind Piastri, but is in a net lead after that 10-second penalty for his team-mate.

Harsh or fair? It was quite a dramatic slowdown from the Australian, and I think the difficult conditions will not have helped his cause.

Hamilton: "This car is hard to drive"

"This car is so hard to drive, mate. It's snappy like crazy," Hamilton says after his off at Copse.

Tsunoda biffed out Bearman at Brooklands is also facing a potential penalty.

Lap 25/52 - Piastri gets 10-second penalty

Drama! Piastri has been slapped with a 10-second penalty for that erratic restart.

Hamilton slides off the road at Copse and Russell says thank you and goodbye. The Mercedes driver moves up to sixth.

Pierre Gasly is still in fifth between Hulkenberg and Russell.

Lap 23/52

For the time being Piastri is defending a three-second lead from team-mate Norris.

Lance Stroll is virtually on the podium, 10 seconds behind the leader. He is being chased by Nico Hulkenberg.

Is this the day Hulkenberg finally finishes on the podium?

That was before Verstappen spun, mind. Two separate incidents.

Piastri under investigation

Race leader Oscar Piastri is being looked at for potentially driving erratically under the safety car, before that restart. It looked like he slowed down quite dramatically and Verstappen had to take avoiding action.

Lap 21/52 - Verstappen spins!

Max Verstappen has spun before we even got to the start/finish line! The Dutchman drops it out of Copse and drops to 10th!

Lap 21/52 - Safety car in this lap

We're about to go racing again.

"This puddle in Turn 2 is a problem," reports Piastri. That's something race control will pick up on as they decide on the timing of the restart.

The top six is unchanged. Hamilton and Russell are now seventh and eighth as Ocon has finally pitted.

Tough day for rookies

Oliver Bearman is the highest ranked rookie right now. He is 14th.

Replays show Hadjar just drove into the back of Antonelli before going into Copse. He had no idea the Mercedes was there because of the spray. Antonelli's car looks okay.

Lap 19/52 - Safety Car

Pure chaos. Safety car driver Bernd Maylander is called into action again.

Lap 18/52 - Hadjar crashes

Isack Hadjar crashes out at Copse! That's a big hit but he has told the team he is okay.

Hamilton immediately gets the place back as they work their way past Ocon!

Lap 18/52 - Restart

Piastri leads the field to the green flag. Russell passes Hamilton turn Turn 1 for eighth.

Lap 17/52

The rain has eased off. Let's get going again soon, shall we?

Alonso frustrated

Alonso, who started in seventh, is wondering how he has suddenly found himself in 10th while team-mate Stroll is fourth after qualifying at the back.

"Crazy how you never get it right with me," is his acerbic radio comment.

This is another big opportunity for some of these midfield teams. Stroll, Hulkenberg and Gasly are in a great position. Ocon is seventh but has yet to pit.

Meanwhile, Leclerc and Antonelli are down in 14th and 15th.

1 - Piastri
2 - Verstappen
3 - Norris
4 - Stroll
5 - Hulkenberg
6 - Gasly
7 - Ocon
8 - Hamilton
9 - Russell
10 - Alonso

Now we get to see all the replays of what has happened to everyone during that downpour.

Leclerc went straight through the grass at Becketts, reporting he was blinded by a splash of water coming through his helmet. Blimey!

Lap 14/52 - Safety Car

We can't. This looks like a safety car intervention for conditions.

Crucially, Norris couldn't get past Verstappen just yet. Piastri's 13-second lead has been wiped out.

This is starting to look like extreme wet tyre territory. Hopefully we can keep going.

Williams' Alex Albon briefly gets up to second by staying out, but he is all at sea on old tyres and needs to led Verstappen and co by again.

We have to eat our words. The brief slick-tyre stint did work out for Lance Stroll. As everyone has had to come in for new inters anyway, Stroll keeps a net fifth place.

Lap 12/52 - Leaders pit

Piastri, Norris and Verstappen all pit for fresh inters. But it's a slow pitstop for Norris, so Verstappen regains the spot he lost by going off.

Lap 11/52 - Verstappen off

Verstappen was not joking, he is off the road at Maggotts and Becketts! He rejoins but will surely pit.

It's really bucketing it down now on the Wellington Straight and into Luffield. All the slick runners are back on inters, including Leclerc and the two Mercedes drivers.

Verstappen: "Bad inters"

"If it really starts to hit hard I need to box, I have really bad inters."

The Red Bull man has cooked his tyres trying to fend off Piastri.

Lap 10/52 - Rain returns

No, it's starting to drizzle again now. That slick tyre gamble has not quite worked.

Lance Stroll has come in under that second VSC and leads the battle of the slick runners in 11th. Leclerc is hounding Antonelli for 14th.

Lap 8/52 - Piastri leads

He's done it! Piastri drafts past Verstappen on the Hangar Straight and takes the lead on the inside into Stowe.

Piastri is clearly much faster, but he will have to go off the dry racing line to get by.

Lap 7/52 - Green flag

We are racing once more, and again Piastri piles on the pressure on leader Verstappen.

We are expecting more rain showers within seven or eight laps.

Lap 6/52

Under the VSC Verstappen stil leads Piastri, Norris and Hamilton.

We have also lost Colapinto from this race at the start.

Team orders at Mercedes, Russell is being allowed past Antonelli as both drivers try to make that early stop to slicks pay off.

They are 13th and 14th now.

Virtual Safety Car

Bortoleto has had to retire the car, so we are under yellows again.

That is bound to lead to more pitstops for slicks.
