Piastri on the front foot

Oscar Piastri is going to try and get by Verstappen as soon as possible. The Red Bull looks struggling on these inters.

Bortoleto has managed to get going again and is limping back to the pits with a dangling rear wing.

He just lost it on slicks after feeding in just a tiny bit too much throttle. That is the risk you take.

Bortoleto off

Bortoleto is off into the gravel at Turn 2! Can he keep going or is this another VSC?

Green flag

We are go again. Verstappen is hounded by Piastri.

At the start Lewis Hamilton was challenging Lando Norris for fourth and the pair almost made contact into Turn 3. That was very, very close.

Antonelli pits

Another pitstops for slicks under the VSC. Antonelli picks up hard tyres and that is a cheap pitstop for the rookie.

Piastri reported the last two corners are still too wet for slicks, mind. But we are not far away from the crossover point.

Replays shows Lawson made contact with the Haas of Esteban Ocon.

They went three-wide and it looks like Ocon was sandwiched in the middle as Yuki Tsunoda got up the inside.

Virtual Safety Car

Liam Lawson is out of the race after contact on lap 1.

Hadjar, Bortoleto and Colapinto have also started on slicks. But there has been contact at the back. It looks like Lawson is in trouble.

Start

Verstappen leads form Piastri and Norris and Hamilton. Gasly moves up to fifth ahead of Alonso!

Slick gambles!

Russell and Leclerc are coming straight in for slicks! That is brave!

75th anniversary

On 13 May 1950 Nino Farina won the first-ever F1 world championship race at Silverstone.

Who's going to win 75 years on? Let us know your pick in the comments.

Start formation lap

Verstappen leads the field off the grid, everyone is on intermediate tyres.

Yesterday six drivers qualified within 0.229s from pole. The race pace between Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari looked similar too.

How will the conditions spice things up? We are about to find out.

Rain has stopped

It has now stopped raining. Definitely a start on inters, but let's see how quickly the track dries up for slicks.

National anthem

BRIT Award-winner Becky Hill performs 'God Save the King' followed by a flyover of the Red Arrows.

That's the sign to start vacating the grid and get ready for 52 laps of Silverstone.

Wing choices

The rain is not the best news for polesitter Max Verstappen, who took his fourth pole of the season yesterday thanks to a lower downforce rear wing, which helped balance out his Red Bull.

That lower downforce wing might come back to bite him now in the wet, but we are talking about Max Verstappen after all. You wouldn't bet against it.

The teams are still having their gazebos up on the starting grid, but the sky is getting ever so brighter.

We're expecting a dry spell and then potentially more precipitation later on.

Fun fact courtesy of our news editor Ben Vinel. Lewis Hamilton has won the latest two races held on 6 July, both at Silverstone.

Can he make it three, and an unprecedented 10th home win? Ferrari was looking strong throughout, and both he and Leclerc have loaded up their car with downforce, which is handy in the wet.

Starting grid

Here's the full grid. Alpine's Franco Colapinto will start from the pitlane after taking a new power unit.

1 - Verstappen
2 - Piastri
3 - Norris
4 - Russell
5 - Hamilton
6 - Leclerc
7 - Alonso
8 - Gasly
9 - Sainz
10 - Antonelli
11 - Tsunoda
12 - Hadjar
13 - Albon
14 - Ocon
15 - Lawson
16 - Bortoleto
17 - Stroll
18 - Bearman
19 - Hulkenberg
P - Colapinto

Wet start

Buut whoever wants to win this race will have to master the conditions, as it looks like we will have a start on intermediate tyres.

It started raining heavily this morning. Less so at this very moment, but it's still coming down on the grid. Jeopardy!

We're looking for an heir to Lewis Hamilton, who grabbed an unforgettable ninth Siverstone win with Mercedes last year.

Lando Norris said he would trade in all his previous win for a home victory. If he does, it would be another important step in the championship fight against team-mate Piastri. The gap currently stands at 15 points after Norris' win last weekend in Austria.

Welcome

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the 2025 British Grand Prix!

At 15:00 BST Max Verstappen will lead us away from pole, chased by McLaren pairing Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
