F1 Bahrain pre-season test - Day 3

Minute by minute updates on the final day of the 2023 F1 Bahrain pre-season test

Kevin Magnussen, Haas VF-23, Logan Sargeant, Williams FW45, Lando Norris, McLaren MCL60, Carlos Sainz, Ferrari SF-23, Zhou Guanyu, Alfa Romeo C43, Esteban Ocon, Alpine A523, Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes F1 W14 line-up on the grid to practice a start

After Max Verstappen topped the opening day and Zhou Guanyu went fastest yesterday, on-track action resumes from 07:00 GMT (10:00 local time).

All three days follow the same schedule, with running taking place from 10:00 until 14:15, and from 15:15 until 19:30 (all local time), pausing for a lunch break.

All 10 teams are set to be in action for the Bahrain pre-season test, the only opportunity teams will have to properly put their cars through their paces before the 2023 season proper gets under way next weekend.

The Bahrain pre-season test will take place on 23-25 February ahead of the 2023 F1 season opener at the same venue, the Bahrain Grand Prix, on 3-5 March.

Hamilton switches to the C3 tyres while Ocon is out of the Alpine as the team prepare the car for another run.
Aston Martin are busily working on the rear of the car in the pit garage. Alonso has completed only 10 laps this afternoon but the two-time world champion sits P6.
Sainz moves to P2. He doesn't quite beat his team-mate's benchmark. Sainz posts a 1m31.162s, a tenth shy of Leclerc.
Sainz is going for a push lap on the softer C4 tyres. Here we go.
Hamilton has another moment as the rear end of his Mercedes steps out. The seven-time world champion is on the harder C2 tyres.
So Leclerc's morning 1m31.024s effort on the C4 tyre remains the benchmark. We are yet to see the softer rubber this afternoon.
Hamilton moves to P14. He goes green in sectors 1 and 2 but runs wide at the final corner. The Mercedes driver is still able to improve to a 1m35.072s.
Perez is about to log the most laps today as the Mexican begins his 88th lap in the Red Bull.
Sainz runs wide at the final corner and trundles into the pit lane. Only Perez, Albon and Magnussen on track.
Sainz leaps up to P6 on the C3 tyres. The Ferrari driver sets a new personal best with a 1m32.441s.
Sainz is the latest to light up the timing sectors, green in sector 1 and 2.
More work being carried on the front of the McLaren in the pits. Norris has logged only 13 laps this afternoon.
Alonso moves to P5 with a 1m32.249 on the C3 rubber.
Piastri reflects on his first F1 pre-season test with McLaren: "It's been a good week of learning. I think we are where we expected to be. But there is a fair bit of learning to do heading into the season."
Sainz is the latest to improve as the Ferrari driver posts a 1m34.053s. Sainz remains in in P11. Tsunoda also sets a new personal best to sit in P14.
Alonso shoots up to P7 with his first effort of the afternoon. It's a 1m33.125s for car #14.
Ocon on the C2 rubber moves up to P8 in the Alpine. The Frenchman posts a 1m33.587s.
Hamilton moves up a spot to P15. The Mercedes driver ran a tad wide at Turn 4.
Perez jumps to P3 on the C3 tyre, with a 1m31.714s effort.
Here goes Hamilton then. The Mercedes driver improves to a 1m38.455s but stays in P16.
We are still yet to see Alonso post a timed lap in the Aston Martin this afternoon.
Hamilton is about to rejoin the fray and he is joined on track by Bottas and Perez.
With 45 minutes of this afternoon's session complete, I'll hand over to Tom Howard.
Speaking of Ferrari, Charles Leclerc expects Ferrari’s 2023 Formula 1 car to be better in a straight line compared its 2022 challenger but thinks it will perhaps struggle slightly “more in the corners”. Magnussen moves up to ninth ahead of Sainz with his latest effort, a 1m34.802s
Sainz goes a little quicker but stays ninth with a 1m35.067s. For comparison, team-mate Charles Leclerc's fastest time this morning was a 1m31.024s
Tsunoda, on the C2 tyre, clocks another lap for AlphaTauri with a 1m36.875s
Sainz, running on the C3 tyre, sets a 1m35.349s to go ninth quickest overall
Hamilton goes 14th quickest with a 1m39.339s on his first attempt
Lewis Hamilton is out and setting about putting his first time on the board
Kevin Magnussen goes ninth fastest with his best time of the afternoon so far, a 1m35.522s
Lando Norris is now out on track for McLaren, putting in more mileage as the team struggles to get to grips with its new car
