Verstappen duly obliges, taking a second out of Hamilton to force him into pitting.
Verstappen's slashed the gap to Hamilton, which is now 8.9s. He's been given the command to push by his engineer Gianpiero Lambiase.
For two laps in a row Vettel runs wide on the exit of Stowe which will get the race stewards on his case if he continues with that. The Ferrari driver is currently running in P12 in between Gasly and Sainz.
Hamilton has found some pace, getting into the high 1m30s - although Verstappen's still faster at this point.
Mercedes will be presumably taking mediums late into the race, but they're just trying to keep the six-time champion in the game at the moment.
Information
There's 15 laps remaining.
Radio Comms
"We've got the pace if we need to react," Verstappen is told.
Hamilton's also concerned that the tyre might go, but he's told the blistering is the cause of the pace drop. Still, it's risky.
Still no sign of Hamilton pitting just yet, possibly worried that he'll get dropped among the Racing Points at this stage of the race.
Kvyat does indeed pit at the end of lap 35, while behind him Albon gets ahead of Ocon for P7.
Kvyat and Ocon lead the F1 midfield fight but both are due to stop for a second time in this race.
Radio Comms
"There's still rubber remaining, despite the blistered section," Hamilton's engineer Bono tells his charge. Hamilton was slower than the rest of the top six on that lap, however.
Radio Comms
"Something wrong's with the car to make the rear left do that," Hamilton says. He'll probably be in relatively sharpish.
Pit stop
Verstappen and Bottas both pit, then. That was a short medium stint for Verstappen - and return in the order that they pitted.
Ricciardo has spun at Turn 3! He had Sainz on his outside but it doesn't look like the pair touched. That has dropped the Renault driver down to P12.
Stopwatch
It's a 1m30.361s for Verstappen. That's full send, isn't it?
Pit stop
Hulkenberg pits from fourth, and returns to the road in sixth on the hard tyre in acres of clean air.
Radio Comms
"Forgot the tyre management. As fast as you can within the limits of the tyre," Verstappen is told. "So we're just going to send it?", the Dutchman replies.
Stopwatch
Leclerc, meanwhile, plonks in a 1m30.668s to set the fastest lap.
Radio Comms
"It is in the gap you didn't like. I'll hang in there but you know you've messed up", Vettel says on the radio. No love lost, it seems, as his Ferrari marriage comes to an end.
While Verstappen is dominating at the front, it is also turning into a strong race for Albon as he gets ahead of Norris to take P7.
Hulkenberg's now within 10s of Hamilton, lapping a couple of tenths faster than the Mercedes driver per lap.
Radio Comms
"He must have less pressure in his tyres", Hamilton speculates. We think that's just hot air at this point.
Verstappen got the inside of Bottas at Brooklands, Verstappen had the grip into Luffield and Bottas calls the "gg".
Bottas' lead lasts all of six corners.
Information
Bad news for Magnussen, who gets a five-second time penalty for his incident with Latifi.
Information
Bit of a slow tyre on for Verstappen, meaning Bottas has grabbed the lead! But for how long?
Half-race distance and Gasly, Russell and Magnussen have all pitted twice already and are duly at the back of the field.
Pit stop
Verstappen's in for some mediums.
Verstappen was a second faster than Bottas on that previous lap too. The plot thickens every lap we get here at Silverstone.
Hamilton reports blistering - he's now 21.4s away from Verstappen as of lap 26.
Information
Verstappen might have earned himself a free pitstop here, as the Mercedes lads are really, really struggling.
Eeek, iffy pitstop for Sainz. He's certainly two-stopping as he's on the medium compound rubber.
Pit stop
Sainz pits, releasing Hulkenberg back into fourth place.
Radio Comms
"My tyres feel good mate, it's all good," Verstappen says. He's a man in control.
On lap 22 Albon gets ahead of Gasly for P12. The Red Bull driver goes around the outside while Gasly's rear tyres look cooked already and he simply doesn't have enough grip.
Speculation that Verstappen might be planning an audacious one-stop strategy. If he can get those hards through the first 30-32 laps, it might be possible.
Information
Mercedes' pace has really dropped now, back into the high 1m32s. Verstappen? 1m31.5s. Spicy.
Hulkenberg's now on Sainz's tail. Sainz has yet to pit, having started on the hards.
How about this for a contest, Gasly against Albon. The AlphaTauri driver is defending against his Red Bull rival but the French driver's rear tyres look in bad shape despite having pitted not long ago.
