Hulkenberg has managed to restart the car, but when he selects first gear "it's like it's not there".
Renault instructing Hulkenberg to try to restart the car on MGU-K power but he is not having any luck.
Just before that, Vandoorne made it a McLaren one-two at the top of the times by going second fastest, while Bottas has gone third and Hamilton fifth for Mercedes.
He reports he has "no drive, like I am in neutral".
The FIA has confirmed new engines have been fitted to Vettel's Ferrari, both Red Bulls, both McLarens, both works Renaults and the two Toro Rosso-Hondas.
Grosjean and Sainz have slotted into third and fourth now, as Alonso improves to 1m15.006s at the top of the times.
Into the 1m15s for Ricciardo now, who is promptly deposed at the top by Alonso, who sets a 1m15.240s to go fastest by over four tenths. Sirotkin and Stroll are third and fourth for Williams, both in the 1m17s.
Ricciardo improves by more than a second on his next lap. The benchmark is now 1m16.306s.
Ricciardo is the first of the frontrunners to set a time. A 1m17.475s puts Red Bull top by 1.3s.
Sirotkin in to the 1m18s now and still top, as Hartley gets on the board for Toro Rosso.
There we go! Sirotkin takes three seconds out of himself on the very next lap.
Sirotkin gets things kicked off on the timing screens with a 1m23.556s lap on supersoft tyres. Expect that to be obliterated as the session wears on.
Red Bull boss Christian Horner says he is "no more confident than usual" that Ricciardo's China MGU-K will last the distance this weekend. "Hopefully he'll be alright with it".
Sirotkin heading back out for Williams after a very quiet spell on track.
Oh, and Hulkenberg. Forgot about him! But he's just headed out, so...
As Latifi returns to the pits, everyone has completed an exploratory lap except the two Mercedes drivers.
Replays show Fernando Alonso completing part of his instal lap one-handed!
Raikkonen heads straight back into the pits after an instal lap. The circuit looks very dusty.
Max Verstappen is first out of the pitlane in the Red Bull, followed by Raikkonen's Ferrari.
Nicholas Latifi, whose father recently invested heavily in McLaren, will take over Sergio Perez's Force India for this session.
The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve will feature a third DRS zone this weekend, in a bid to promote more overtaking in Sunday's race.
Monaco winner Daniel Ricciardo also fancies his chances on this track, so Red Bull is planning to replace his knackered Monaco MGU-K with a recycled unit from the Chinese GP in an effort to avoid grid penalties.
The Mercedes drivers may limit their mileage in this session, to help preserve those tired engines.
