Rosberg is told he lost pole in the final sector, which is basically the last corner and the drag up the hill to the finish line. "you were a tenth down on your previous lap," Mercedes tells him when he asks about the gab to Hamilton.

"Well done mate, great job!" Ferrari tells Kimi. "That's a surprise because the first part of the lap was no good," he says. "Good job," says his engineer Dave Greenwood. "Thanks. I was pretty average," is Kimi's retort. Not a bad result considering.

Q3 result: 1 Hamilton; 2 Rosberg; 3 Raikkonen; 4 Verstappen; 5 Vettel; 6 Ricciardo; 7 Grosjean; 8 Hulkenberg; 9 Perez; 10 Alonso
Grosjean's seventh place holds, as the Force Indias of Hulkenberg and Perez push Alonso down to 10th.
Ricciardo has to settle for sixth, albeit only 0.055s off Verstappen in fourth.
Raikkonen grabs third with a great late lap that puts him 0.081s ahead of Verstappen and 0.091s ahead of Vettel.
Rosberg's final sector falls short too - he has to settle for second, 0.102s behind Hamilton.

Not a great sector three for Hamilton, but he improves his lap time to 1m10.736s.
Rosberg is still up in sector two, but not by much.

Rosberg is fighting back as the second runs begin - he's a tenth up in sector one.

And now here comes everyone else.
Grosjean now has the track to himself for his single run while everyone else prepares for their second. He goes seventh ahead of Alonso and the Force Indias.

"Do you want us to try a bit more rear pressure?" Mercedes asks Rosberg. Traction is not great either so I'm a bit worried about that," he replies.
Perez goes ninth, just under a tenth down on team-mate Hulkenberg ahead.

Alonso takes seventh for now, with a 0.4s margin back to Hulkenberg behind. Perez is on a lap, Grosjean is still in the pits.
Verstappen is best of the rest, ahead of Vettel, Ricciardo and Raikkonen.

Once again, Hamilton has the advantage: his 1m10.860s beats Rosberg's 1m11.022s for provisional pole.

"OK I've done my best. I think there were a couple of tenths in me, maybe a tenth and a half," says Kvyat, as he's told he's four tenths away from the top 10 and losing time in sector one.
