"F***ing traffic everywhere!" bemoans Nasr, after qualifying 22nd and last for his home race.
Magnussen closed the gap to Palmer to two tenths in the end, but that was the difference between 16th and 18th place.
Into Q2: Hamilton, Rosberg, Verstappen, Raikkonen, Vettel, Ricciardo, Hulkenberg, Massa, Bottas, Perez, Alonso, Grosjean, Sainz, Gutierrez, Kvyat, Palmer
"We definitely sorted those problems out didn't we?!" says Button sarcastically after being informed he's missed the Q2 cut.
Out in Q1: 17 Button; 18 Magnussen; 19 Wehrlein; 20 Ocon; 21 Ericsson; 22 Nasr
Palmer is down to 16th but is improving - not that he'll need to worry too much as everyone behind is too slow to depose him.
Button has another big lock-up and stays 17th - he's out in Q1.
Ericsson gets ahead of Nasr in what is now an all-Sauber back row.
Magnussen drags himself off the bottom to 18th, but that won't be enough.
Hulkenberg was pretty safe in 11th and is now a very safe seventh.
"OK I have to abort the lap," reports Sainz after a wide moment.
Nasr improves his pace but not his position - he stays 20th and will be out in Q1 at home.
"I went into Turn 8 and suddenly lost all the front!" Grosjean is animated on team radio again.
A replay shows Sainz ran wide at the Descida do Lago on this flying lap. He's currently 12th.
Button's first bid to get out of Q1 doesn't go well, a lock up in the infield section meaning he stays 17th.
Kvyat told to "pass Gutierrez and keep temperature in the tyres" by Toro Rosso. Not easy to get the Pirellis working correctly in this cool weather.
Button is in trouble too - he's half a second down on Alonso's pace but that translates into ninth versus 17th.
"It's not happening," says Hulkenberg as he pits the Force India. He's 11th fastest, but only three tenths clear of the drop zone. It's going to be tight on such a short circuit.
Force India looking muted still after those runs - both drivers looking OK for Q2 now but not absolutely safe.
Tail end: 17 Button; 18 Wehrlein; 19 Ocon; 20 Nasr; 21 Ericsson; 22 Magnussen
Midfield: 11 Hulkenberg; 12 Sainz; 13 Kvyat; 14 Gutierrez; 15 Perez; 16 Palmer
Order: 1 Hamilton; 2 Rosberg; 3 Verstappen; 4 Raikkonen; 5 Vettel; 6 Ricciardo; 7 Massa; 8 Bottas; 9 Alonso; 10 Grosjean
Vettel's first lap puts him fifth, 0.059s off team-mate Raikkonen.
"Now the rain is a bit more heavy," Raikkonen reports to Ferrari. Ominous signs for Q2 perhaps.
Raikkonen has stayed out for another flying lap and is fastest of all in sector one.
"Box box, look after these tyres, we made need them again, not too slow or they'll be too cold to start," Mercedes instructs Rosberg. "Shall I go again?" Hamilton asks. "Negative, we're happy with that lap," Mercedes replies. Great start for Hamilton, despite getting baulked by Daniil Kvyat's Toro Rosso.
