Barcelona F1 test day two

We think Leclerc should take the track back, as these 1m21s-1m24s just aren't doing it for us.
Grins all round from Renault's little-known new driver - Daniel something?

Grins all round from Renault's little-known new driver - Daniel something?

Leclerc pits at the end of that slow lap to conclude what was effectively a 10-lap run on C3 tyres.
Bottas gives us a dash of green on the timing screen for a personal best middle sector, but his 1m20.3s lap is four tenths down on his best from earlier.
Leclerc backs off for a low-speed run down the main straight, which we've seen a few times from Ferrari when it's declared that a long run is over from a tyre life perspective.
Leclerc's C3 tyres could be crying enough here. His last three laps are a 1m24.6s, 25.6s, 26.6s. That's some pretty severe drop-off. Those are laps eight, nine and 10 of this stint.
Bottas has been off at the first corner, taking a trip through the asphalt run-off, then staying out of Leclerc's way in Turn 3 before properly rejoining the circuit.
Leclerc has lost half a second over the course of this C3-tyre run so far, starting out at 1m23.5s, and now running at 1m24.0s six laps in.
Albon and Stroll have headed back out to keep Leclerc and Giovinazzi company. And by keep them company, we mean drive around nowhere near them on track.
We're intrigued by Leclerc's current run on the C3 tyres, which started with a run through the pitlane, some burnouts, and a practice start. You know, those things you do... in a race? Let's hope he stays out there for a long time. We're logging the laps. Giovinazzi is back out on the C2 tyres, which are slightly harder, and he's three seconds quicker than Leclerc, so clearly running a fair bit less fuel.
In need of a reminder of the order and the times that have been set so far too? Just under two hours left on the clock!

1 Leclerc 1m18.247s
2 Magnussen 1m19.206s
3 Giovinazzi 1m19.312s
4 Norris 1m19.489s
5 Gasly 1m19.814s
6 Ricciardo 1m19.886s
7 Hamilton 1m19.928s
8 Bottas 1m19.947s
9 Albon 1m20.046s
10 Stroll 1m20.433s
11 Hulkenberg 1m22.601s
Lap count:

Watching at Turn 9, the fast Campsa right-hander, Lando Norris was going down a gear very late on turn in to get the car to rotate before going back up a gear just after. That's two extra gear changes nobody else was doing.
Today's pacesetter Leclerc heads back out to join Hulkenberg on track.
Race-run attempting Hulkenberg now has the track to himself, and he's just clocked his 50th lap of the afternoon.
That's over two hours Giovinazzi and Alfa have missed this afternoon. He's on the C3 tyre.
Giovinazzi has come out to play for the first time this afternoon. He completed 62 laps this morning.
Stroll's first two times on the C2 tyres were a 1m21.150s and a 1m21.079s. If he can keep that up over a long run, that would be very impressive.

Albon, who lapped regularly in the 1m23s on that lengthy long run, has just pitted.
Magnussen set that 1m19.206s on the C3 tyre to go second quickest.
Magnussen has just improved on his already second-best lap time in the order. We missed him come past so we'll update what tyre he was on in a minute or two.
Stroll is out on the C2 for the first time this afternoon. That tells us that, for once, he might not be doing an install lap.
Leclerc pits from his run on the C3s.

Magnussen and Stroll head out onto the track.
Leclerc slowed on the straight on that last lap, but it looks like it was just as to not hold up his former ART Grand Prix GP3 team-mate Alexander Albon. The two fought for the title in 2016, when Albon took more wins but Leclerc sealed the title.
Leclerc is stuck around the 1m24s-1m25s on this run on the C3 tyres. That's pretty slow, but it's likely the team is seeing how far they can push this set.

Ferrari are top of the laps completed so far, with 115 to Toro Rosso's 96 with Albon.
Three laps, and Gasly pits. We're back to being unhappy again.
Albon is still lapping in the 1m23s on his C2 long run. Hulkenberg and Norris were consistently around the 1m25s mark earlier in the day. But of course, we don't know how much fuel is on board and other items like that.
Anyway, we're going a bit stir-crazy now. Back to the analysis and insight that you all know and love from now on.
GASLY HAS STAYED OUT. You are forgiven for your earlier indiscretions of 5000 install laps. Thanks, Pierre.

Now, more cars out on track with him, pretty please.
The three cars out on track all set laps slower than a 1m23s last time around. The session-best is 1m18.247s...
Gasly is out for Red Bull. Will he stay out for more than an install lap today? He's done 57 install laps so far.

OK, we're exaggerating. We just really hate install laps.
It's interesting to watch certain drivers drifting wide at the entry of the last turn, almost pointing their cars away from the last corner, in order to touch the raised curb on the outside. Presumably, it's to help turn-in.
