We have Red Bull and Mercedes leading the way. Join us tomorrow for final practice and qualifying from the Nurburgring.
On the tyre front, the medium compound is clearly the choice for the race. The soft has immense one-lap pace, but degrades quickly.
Hamilton finishes his day in a lowly eighth spot, with Button ninth and di Resta rounds out the top 10 for Force India.
Grosjean is fourth for Lotus, 0.427s back. He is just ahead of team-mate Kimi Raikkonen, with Alonso sixth and Massa seventh.
Sebastian Vettel is fastest in second practice at the Nurburgring with a time of 1m30.416s, ahead of Rosberg and Webber.
Sutil is wheeled into the garage, having completed 34 laps of the circuit this afternoon. He ends the day in 11th position.
Perez does a 1m37.7s during a long run on the softs. He'll just squeeze in another lap as the chequered flag falls on FP2.
The session has ended. Drivers already on a timed lap may complete it.
89 min: Raikkonen requested some extra front wing to counter the graining problem with his front tyres.
88 min: Alonso is lapping in the 1m36s, which makes him significantly faster than Raikkonen's Lotus, which is in the pits for a late switch to medium tyres.
86 min: Raikkonen does a 1m39.3s lap on used soft tyres, which are showing severe graining on the fronts.
85 min: Webber is told over the radio that others have struggled badly on the option tyres that he has just swapped over to.
83 min: Grosjean reports severe degradation with the tyres on his Lotus. He describes it as "bad" on the radio to his team.
83 min: Webber is next into the pits on 31-lap-old medium tyres. He changes over to the soft compound and rejoins.
82 min: As always the devil in terms of fuel load, as Hamilton comes into the pits, runs through the lane and heads back out again.
81 min: Massa able to lap consistently in the 1m36-1m37s bracket on used soft tyres.
81 min: Interestingly, Webber has completed 30 laps on his set of mediums now and is still lapping at the same pace as Vettel and Rosberg.
80 min: Massa is due in for another set of tyres on his Ferrari.
79 min: Vettel comes through to complete the 16th lap on this set of medium tyres and it matches Rosberg's last lap - 1m36.9s.
78 min: Charles Pic is complaining of front tyre degradation on his Caterham.
77 min: Raikkonen spent his time in the pits having his rear-end set-up tweaked according to the Lotus team.
75 min: Button has taken out some front wing on his McLaren for this next run.
75 min: Webber is well into race mode and he takes to the outside of Perez at the top of the hill. The Mexican eventually gives up track position and they continue on their respective programmes.
74 min: Raikkonen wakes up and joins a busy track after 20 minutes in the pits.
73 min: Perez will push to the end with a pitstop for soft tyres before the end of the session.
73 min: Gutierrez told he is doing a good job by the team: "No DRS unless you need to defend". But it's only practice!
72 min: Vettel comes in, straight through and is back onto the circuit.
72 min: Vettel is asked to practice the pit-in and drive through the lane. He is also reminded to adhere to the lollipop.
70 min: The Vettel versus Rosberg run is highly entertaining. They are on mediums that have completed 11 and 12 laps - one-tenth apart again.
68 min: Grosjean gets a signal from Webber after the Red Bull man locks up while passing him at Turn 7. Trouble seems to follow the Frenchman around.
67 min: Hamilton is told on the radio that his pace so far on the soft tyre is good. He is on soft tyres that have completed 11 laps.
67 min: Massa does a 1m36.3s on his next lap. Still pretty competitive compared with the rest on used soft tyres.
66 min: Vettel is told by 'Rocky' on the radio that the degradation on the soft tyres is 'standard'.
65 min: Massa does a 1m35.9s lap on his set of softs. They're pretty old so that looks quite good for Ferrari.
65 min: Rosberg pits and switches to mediums - as does Rosberg. Webber comes through even quicker with 1m36.211s after 21 laps on this set.
64 min: Replays of Rosberg in slow-motion at the chicane with a lot of graining across the front soft tyres.
63 min: Webber comes through after 19 laps on mediums in 1m36.595s - a full three seconds faster now as the medium holds up and the softs fade.
62 min: But it is impressive that after several laps the two are still lapping one-tenth of a second apart.
62 min: Vettel 1m39.101s versus Rosberg 1m39.277s after 14 and 12 laps on soft tyres. Their pace is dropping away considerably now.
