Lap 13: Schumacher re-takes third into the second chicane as this incredible racing continues at Monza.
Lap 13: Behind Perez, di Resta is ninth but coming under a strong attack from Jaime Alguersuari.
Lap 13: Hamilton is through with a clean move on Schumacher but the Mercedes is back at him around the Curve Grande!
Lap 13: Schumacher is wide through the Parabolica this time and finally Hamilton gets his nose down into the first chicane.
Lap 13: Maldonado is now seventh and in with a big chance of solid points today. He is dropping back from Massa, but has a 2,2s buffer over Perez.
Lap 12: Hamilton still can't make it past as this scrap rages on into the 12th lap.
Lap 11: Hamilton is virtually pushing the Mercedes out of Ascari as the pair go wheel-to-wheel into Parabolica.
Lap 11: Sutil has stopped and is out of the race. Only 17 remain in this amazing Italian Grand Prix.
Lap 11: Adrian Sutil seems to be in trouble. He was 13th but may have stopped on the circuit.
Lap 10: Schumacher defends robustly from Hamilton into Ascari as Hamilton draws ever closer to a move on the Mercedes.
Lap 10: Meanwhile, Vettel sets the fastest lap as he pulls to a comfortable 5.1 second lead.
Lap 10: Trulli trails the survivors in 18th position, as Massa passes Maldonado for sixth place.
Lap 10: Hamilton has a better run this time but still can't get a move on Schumacher with the limited DRS opportunity on the front straight.
Lap 9: Barrichello is down in 17th after that stop for a new nose at the end of the first lap. But he has a large gap to close before he catches Glock.
Lap 9: Hamilton complains on the radio about his lack of speed at the end of the straights, but is basically told the Mercedes is simply faster.
Lap 9: Kobayashi is 11th followed by Buemi 12th, Senna 13th, Sutil 14th, Kovalainen 15th and Glock in 16th.
Lap 8: Despite DRS, Hamilton is struggling to outpace Schumacher's slippery Mercedes down the straights.
Lap 8: Perez is seventh with Massa up to eighth, di Resta down to ninth and Alguersuari 10th.
Lap 8: World champions in positions one to five as Vettel races away from the battle between Alonso, Schumacher and Hamilton. Button is 2s behind.
Lap 8: Maldonado is maintaining sixth but falling away from the leaders. He is six seconds down on Button.
Lap 8: Replays later show that Webber had little control of the RB7 with no front downforce and he understeered straight into the gravel.
Lap 7: Alonso has made a slight break from Schumacher over the last lap, with Hamilton now looking for a DRS move on the Mercedes man.
Lap 7: Webber's Red Bull has been craned away from the Parabolica gravel trap.
Lap 7: Vettel is off to a 2.8 second lead over this fascinating scrap between Alonso, Schumacher and Hamilton.
Lap 7: Maldonado is up to a sensational sixth with Perez seventh and past di Resta. Massa is up to ninth, having passed Alguersuari.
Lap 7: The DRS is now enabled.
Lap 7: Massa emerged seemingly unscathed from that incident with Webber and he runs in 10th.
Lap 6: Alonso, Schumacher and Hamilton are going hammer and tongs for second position now. Incredible racing in the opening stages at Monza.
Lap 6: Webber lost his front nose and has subsequently crashed later in the lap. Webber is out of the race.
Lap 6: Button is next on the road after Webber collided with Massa as the pair raced side-by-side into the first corner.
Lap 6: Crazy racing at Monza in the opening stages! Webber attempted to pass Massa round the outside at Turn 1 and the pair made contact.
Lap 5: Vettel now leads after an outstanding move on Alonso, chased by Schumacher and Hamilton.
Lap 5: Alonso is forced to defend and Vettel goes all the way around the outside of the Ferrari in the Curve Grande. Sensational.
Lap 5: Maldonado has passed Paul di Resta and has taken eighth position.
Lap 5: Alonso needs to sprint away quickly as Vettel is very strong off the corners with his choice of gearing in the Red Bull.
Lap 4: Webber jumps Button into Turn 1 and takes over sixth position.
Lap 4: Alonso leads but Vettel is all over the back of the Ferrari into the second chicane.
Lap 4: It's a poor restart from Hamilton and Schumacher pulls easily ahead and into third.
Lap 4: The safety car comes into the pitlane and we are racing once again.
Lap 3: Webber is seventh with di Resta up to eighth, Maldonado ninth and Perez 10th.
