Lap 36: This is Button's opportunity now as he races Alonso on warmer rubber.
Lap 36: Alonso resumes clear of Button, but right on the tail of the Ferrari.
Lap 35: Alguersuari is therefore promoted to seventh with Buemi eighth, Senna ninth and Maldonado in 10th.
Lap 35: Alonso's team react immediately and the Spaniard heads in for his own fresh tyres.
Lap 35: The valiant effort from Perez is over. He pulls off at the entrance to Curva Grande and is out of the race.
Lap 35: Button is clear of Massa on the road and will now be looking to profit from pace on the hard rubber.
Lap 35: It's a rapid stop for Button though and he resumes ahead of the lapped Barrichello.
Lap 34: Button is blocked by Barrichello as the pair dice entering the pits.
Lap 34: Perez is losing a lot of pace now and will soon be swamped by Alguersuari and Buemi if he does not pit.
Lap 34: Button will be hoping Alonso struggles for pace on the harder tyre, but the hot track conditions should help Ferrari this afternoon.
Lap 33: Di Resta pits from ninth position and loses that place to Buemi for the time being.
Lap 33: Alonso is comfortably holding off Button for the moment. The McLaren team will now be pondering its strategy options for the final stop.
Lap 32: So behind the top six it's still Perez who has yet to stop in seventh with Alguersuari eighth, di Resta ninth and Buemi 10th.
Lap 32: Alguersuari has a beautiful run on di Resta heading into the Parabolica but is unable to get the move done ... but down the main straight he seals the deal to take eighth.
Lap 31: Massa is now closing slightly on Schumacher, but has done little to bring down the 12 second gap despite the racing going on ahead.
Lap 31: Senna makes a move on Maldonado coming down the straight and he takes 11th place going into Turn 1.
Lap 31: Hamilton is clocked 8.5 seconds behind that pair after losing 22 seconds to the leader in that epic scrap with Schumacher.
Lap 30: Vettel's lead is now 13.6 seconds over the scrap between Alonso and Button.
Lap 30: Glock is 15th and one lap down in the Virgin. He is 19.5s ahead of Trulli in 16th, with Ricciardo still ploughing on several laps down.
Lap 30: Replays show Schumacher held off defending Hamilton that time, with the McLaren finally making it past at Ascari.
Lap 30: Buemi is 10th in the second Toro Rosso with Maldonado still fending off Senna for 11th. Barrichello is 13th with Kovalainen 14th.
Lap 29: Perez remains in seventh but has yet to pit, with di Resta 13.4s back in eighth. Alguersuari is ninth and on the Scot's tail.
Lap 29: That puts Hamilton up into third but he needs to be wary of Schuamcher coming back at him at the end of the straights.
Lap 28: Hamilton finally makes his move as he blasts past Schumacher into Ascari.
Lap 28: Senna has made an error or been forced wide by Maldonado's Williams as they continue fighting for 11th. Senna loses two seconds in the middle sector.
Lap 28: Meanwhile, Button is now right on the gearbox of Alonso's Ferrari.
Lap 28: Schumacher is again ordered on the racio by Ross Brawn to leave space when changing direction.
Lap 27: Maldonado has been passed by Buemi into Turn 1. The Swiss now runs 10th with Maldonado left to fend off Senna's attack.
Lap 27: Hamilton's McLaren has a huge amount of rear downforce, with the team expecting to have been fighting with slower top speed of the Red Bull.
Lap 27: Another south American duel is on the cards soon. Senna is continuing to try and come back through the midfield. He is on Maldonado's tail.
Lap 26: Button sets the fastest lap as he closes to just a second behind Alonso in a battle for second place.
Lap 26: Schumacher's rear tyres are already degrading as he pushes on with very little rear downforce on the Mercedes.
Lap 26: Hamilton must be ruing his poor restart after the safety car, where he originally lost track position to Schumacher.
Lap 25: Perez in seventh is the only driver yet to stop this afternoon. Sauber may look to make one stop and try to get the Mexican 25 or so laps on the soft compound.
Lap 25: Kobayashi has stopped at the side of the road on the run to Parabolica. He is out of the race.
Lap 24: Schumacher is told on the radio by Ross Brawn to "leave room at Ascari" as Hamilton again looks for a move on the front straight.
Lap 24: Maldonado is 10th with Buemi one second behind him in 11th, Senna 12th, Barrichello 13th and Kovalainen rejoins in 14th.
Lap 24: Button is up to third after clearing Schumacher around the stops and is now closing on Alonso, just 1.6 seconds behind.
