Lap 30: Vettel's lead is now 13.6 seconds over the scrap between Alonso and Button.
Lap 31: Hamilton is clocked 8.5 seconds behind that pair after losing 22 seconds to the leader in that epic scrap with Schumacher.
Lap 31: Senna makes a move on Maldonado coming down the straight and he takes 11th place going into Turn 1.
Lap 31: Massa is now closing slightly on Schumacher, but has done little to bring down the 12 second gap despite the racing going on ahead.
Lap 32: Alguersuari has a beautiful run on di Resta heading into the Parabolica but is unable to get the move done ... but down the main straight he seals the deal to take eighth.
Lap 32: So behind the top six it's still Perez who has yet to stop in seventh with Alguersuari eighth, di Resta ninth and Buemi 10th.
Lap 33: Alonso is comfortably holding off Button for the moment. The McLaren team will now be pondering its strategy options for the final stop.
Lap 33: Di Resta pits from ninth position and loses that place to Buemi for the time being.
Lap 34: Button will be hoping Alonso struggles for pace on the harder tyre, but the hot track conditions should help Ferrari this afternoon.
Lap 34: Perez is losing a lot of pace now and will soon be swamped by Alguersuari and Buemi if he does not pit.
Lap 34: Button is blocked by Barrichello as the pair dice entering the pits.
Lap 34: Barrichello pits from 13th place in the Williams.
Lap 35: It's a rapid stop for Button though and he resumes ahead of the lapped Barrichello.
Lap 35: Button is clear of Massa on the road and will now be looking to profit from pace on the hard rubber.
Lap 35: The valiant effort from Perez is over. He pulls off at the entrance to Curva Grande and is out of the race.
Lap 35: Alonso's team react immediately and the Spaniard heads in for his own fresh tyres.
Lap 35: Hamilton also pits this time by.
Lap 35: Alguersuari is therefore promoted to seventh with Buemi eighth, Senna ninth and Maldonado in 10th.
Lap 36: Alonso resumes clear of Button, but right on the tail of the Ferrari.
Lap 36: This is Button's opportunity now as he races Alonso on warmer rubber.
Lap 36: Vettel meanwhile pits from the lead and easily resumes there after a rapid stop by Red Bull.
Lap 37: Outside the top 10, di Resta is 11th with Kovalainen a fine 12th. The Finn is still a long way from points, but there are still more than 15 laps to go.
Lap 37: Button tries the inside line at Curve Grande and temporarily at least has second into the Roggia chicane.
Lap 37: Barrichello is 13th. He is 9.4s down on Kovalainen but closing in at one second per lap.
Lap 37: Alonso can't defend and Button is clearly through into second.
Lap 37: Kovalainen comes into the pits for the second time from 12th.
Lap 38: He hands that position to Barrichello and will come out very close to Glock.
Lap 38: Schumacher pits his Mercedes for the final time.
Lap 39: Alguersuari has fallen to a whopping 26 seconds behind sixth placed Hamilton, but he is edging away from Toro Rosso team-mate Buemi.
Lap 39: Hamilton is the man to watch at the moment as he remains clear of the resuming Schumacher and is off in chase of Alonso.
Lap 39: Massa is fourth at the moment but yet to make his final stop.
Lap 39: Alonso's pace is better on his latest tour as he finally builds some heat in the harder rubber.
Lap 40: Maldonado pits for the final time from 10th place. Di Resta goes through and retakes the final points position for the moment.
Lap 40: Alonso is definitely on a better pace now as he closes on Button to resume a battle for second place.
Lap 40: Kovalainen is back ahead of Glock after that stop and runs in 13th place - it's just three off the points, but 60 seconds away.
Lap 40: Vettel meanwhile is long gone out front with a huge 15.7 second margin to take into the final stages.
Lap 41: Hamilton's progress towards the back of Alonso has faded, with the McLaren man on course for a frustrated fourth at this stage.
Lap 41: Glock pits from 14th and falls well away from Kovalainen's Lotus.
Lap 41: Buemi makes a mistake while pushing hard at the first chicane. His team-mate Alguersuari in seventh continues to edge away.
Lap 42: Hamilton responds with the fastest lap of the race at a 1m26.941s.
