Lap 9: Senna then passes Ricciardo for 19th on the next lap, as Perez passes D'Ambrosio.
Lap 9: Button is congratulated by his McLaren team for breaking out of DRS range of Webber. He's now 1.7 seconds clear of the Red Bull.
Lap 8: Senna is beginning to make progress. He is up to 20th after passing D'Ambrosio.
Lap 8: Kovalainen's pace is very good in 13th compared to Barrichello and Maldonado behind him. The Finn pulls 0.6s away from them on the last lap.
Lap 8: Schumacher, seventh, has faded somewhat from team-mate Rosberg and is now coming under some pressure from Sutil in the Force India.
Lap 7: Petrov in 11th is beginning to hold up Alguersuari, as another tight midfield battle behind the leaders starts to take shape.
Lap 7: Webber remains around a second behind Button on the road but is struggling to outrun the Mercedes-powered McLaren down the straights.
Lap 7: Problems for the Sauber pair have promoted Kovalainen to 13th position. He will soon be under attack from both Williams drivers.
Lap 7: Kobayashi has rejoined the race but he will join team-mate Perez towards the rear of the field - disaster for Sauber in the early stages.
Lap 6: Hamilton and Alonso trade the fastest lap as the lead gap holds at 2.7 seconds.
Lap 6: Buemi in 10th is closing down di Resta's Force India. This is big for the sixth place battle in the constructors' championship.
Lap 6: Webber has picked up some litter on the undertray of his Red Bull, but it doesn't appear to be impacting his speed at the moment.
Lap 6: Kobayashi is clearly in trouble and he pits at the end of the lap.
Lap 5: Kobayashi is beginning to fall back through the field. Petrov and Alguersuari have passed the Sauber driver. He is now 13th.
Lap 5: Webber carries Red Bull's hopes in this race now, putting the pressure on Button with two fast sectors.
Lap 5: Senna came into the pits at the end of the first lap and like Perez, he will now attempt to charge up the order.
Lap 5: Behind Maldonado, Liuzzi is 18th with Trulli 19th, D'Ambrosio 20th, Ricciardo 21st, Senna 22nd and Perez 23rd.
Lap 5: Alonso responds with the fastest lap in his Ferrari but he is still 2.6 seconds behind leader Hamilton.
Lap 4: Webber dives down the inside of Button at Turn 8 but the McLaren man gets the position back again on DRS into Turn 11.
Lap 4: Vettel is out of the car and chatting with the Red Bull engineers. This is his first failure to finish since last year's Korean Grand Prix.
Lap 4: Kovalainen is up in a strong 14th position with Barrichello making a good start up to 15th, Glock 16th and Maldonado in 17th.
Lap 4: Button is now coming under some pressure from Webber, who is chased by Massa followed by the Mercedes pair of Rosberg and Schumacher.
Lap 4: Buemi has passed Kobayashi and takes over 10th place, demoting the Japanese to 11th, with Petrov 12th and Alguersuari 13th.
Lap 4: Alonso once again got away well, clearing Webber easily before chasing down Button on the long straight heading down to Turn 8.
Lap 3: Behind the top seven, Sutil is eighth with team-mate di Resta ninth and Kobayashi is 10th for Sauber.
Lap 3: Replays of the start show Vettel well clear of Hamilton and Button before the Red Bull man hit that trouble with his rear tyre.
Lap 3: Perez rejoins in what is now 23rd and last position.
Lap 3: Hamilton clocks the fastest lap as he pulls 2.7s clear of Alonso, who has shaken off the challenge of Button as DRS becomes available.
Lap 3: Perez comes into the pits at the end of the second lap to have that loose front wing changed.
Lap 2: The mechanics take one look at the RB7 and decide that is it for the German. Amazing - he is out of the race.
Lap 2: Vettel enters the pitlane and the Red Bull mechanics go to work.
Lap 2: Replays show that Vettel just caught the exit kerb wrong with low tyre pressures and it was enough to cut the right rear tyre.
Lap 2: Hamilton leads by 2.5 seconds from Alonso, Button and Webber after a dramatic opening tour at Yas Marina.
Lap 2: Perez decides to risk it ... but Vettel is in terrible trouble and his car is damaged.
Lap 2: Replays are yet to be shown as to how Vettel ended up with a puncture heading out of the first corner.
Lap 2: Perez also has been involved in contact further down the field. He has a loose front wing.
Lap 1: Button tires to fight back on Alonso into Turn 12 as Hamilton races away up front.
Lap 1: Vettel is stone last as the dramatic first lap continues.
Lap 1: Alonso dives past Button as the Spaniard starts strongly in his Ferrari.
Lap 1: Hamilton leads down the back straight in front of Button, Alonso, Webber and Massa in fifth.
