Lap 50: Jarno Trulli is tight up behind Chandhok and the battle for 16th is back on again.
Lap 49: There is no change in the order with Webber leading Vettel followed by Kubica, Massa, Hamilton, Alonso, Schumacher, Rosberg and Sutil.
Lap 49: A couple of laps into the restart and Liuzzi is now dropping pace. Buemi and Alguersuari are right behind him in 11th and 12th positions.
Lap 48: Hamilton is maintaining pressure on the Ferrari while Kubica has broken away in third.
Lap 47: Msssa has a moment at the chicane and cuts to the inside of the kerb.
Lap 47: Liuzzi is coping a little better on this restart with his previously fading pace and is close behind team-mate Sutil. They are ninth and tenth.
Lap 47: Kubica hasn't broken away well from Massa this time while the Red Bulls are long gone up front.
Lap 46: Hamilton looks the man most likely as he eyes the gearbox of Massa's Ferrari.
Lap 46: Webber once again sprints off into the lead.
Lap 46: The safety car comes into the pitlane and we are racing once again.
Lap 45: One of the strangest safety car interventions ever is coming to an end as the field comes round the harbour towards the end of the lap.
Lap 44: The marshals have taken a closer look at the problem and have clearly decided that the track is safe to continue.
Lap 44: The safety car will come in at the end of this lap.
Lap 44: Turn 3 is up the top of the hill around Massenet.
Lap 44: Race control state that a drain cover is loose at Turn 3.
Lap 43: The safety car has been deployed.
Lap 43: Alonso, sixth, has now fallen 4.1 seconds behind Hamilton as the Spaniard tries to maintain his tyres.
Lap 42: Sutil in ninth is beginning to have a lonely time out there. He is almost four seconds behind Rosberg, but over five seconds up on Liuzzi.
Lap 42: Webber is now 2.7 seconds in the lead as he improves the benchmark time to a 1m16.828s.
Lap 41: Kubica is pushing hard at the moment, putting pressure on second-place man Vettel.
Lap 41: Webber and Kubica trade the fastest time on that lap with the Renault now on top in 1m17.036s.
Lap 40: Karun Chandhok is now pulling away from Trulli's Lotus and the Indian is beginning to catch team-mate Senna, who is 15th.
Lap 40: Vettel sets the fastest lap as the race finally ticks through half distance.
Lap 39: Schumacher, seventh, will fancy his chances on former title rival Alonso as the Spaniard will surely be struggling for rubber late on.
Lap 39: Tonio Liuzzi is beginning to struggle in tenth place. He is losing pace, with Toro Rosso drivers Buemi and Alguersuari now right with him.
Lap 38: McLaren engineers tell Hamilton he needs to conserve the front brakes, which the driver is surprised about given the number of laps left.
Lap 38: Trulli is all over the back of Karun Chandhok as they fight over 16th position. Further up the road Buemi is hounding Liuzzi for tenth.
Lap 38: Alonso is falling off the tail of Hamilton and has the difficult task of nursing his tyres to the finish after that very early stop.
Lap 37: Webber is once again pulling out a lead over Vettel and the Australian is clearly very happy with his car around here.
Lap 36: One lap down on the leader, Petrov is 13th and pulling easily away from Kovalainen 14th, with Senna 15th, Chandhok 16th and Trulli 17th.
Lap 36: Behind the top eight, Sutil is holding on well in ninth place with Liuzzi tenth, Buemi 11th and Alguersuari 12th.
Lap 36: Alonso will be very happy with his strategic rise up to sixth but he doesn't seem to have anything for Hamilton ahead at the moment.
Lap 35: The field is quite spread as Petrov causes some delay while being lapped.
Lap 34: Webber is away up the hill from Vettel, Kubica, Massa and Hamilton.
Lap 34: The safety car comes into the pitlane and we are racing once again.
Lap 32: Seven drivers are out of the race, leaving 17 to battle it out for honours this afternoon.
Lap 32: The safety car will come in at the end of this lap.
Lap 32: There is a lot of debris at the Massenet corner and real-time replays show the violent nature of the accident.
Lap 32: Vettel is now right behind Webber in the queue, followed by Kubica, Massa, Hamilton, Alonso, Schumacher, Rosberg, Sutil and Liuzzi.
Lap 32: Barrichello is walking back down the hill towards the pits as the battered FW31 is craned away by the marshals.
