18 min: Buemi moves up to 12th and now Schumacher is in the dreaded 18th spot. He is just starting a quick lap.
17 min: This puts Buemi in 18th. He is on for an improvement here. Schumacher is 17th currently.
17 min: Petrov is the fastest man through the first sector but only improves to eighth with a poor final part of the lap.
17 min: Sutil pulls a much better second sector time out and it helps him on the way to 1m22.165s and 11th ... make that 12th place.
16 min: Kubica makes a big leap up the standings and puts his Renault third quickest with a great 1m21.159s from the Pole.
16 min: Sutil is now the man in that dreaded 18th position. His first sector isn't that good either on this lap. Just over three minutes left.
16 min: Button is now down to 13th and is forced out for another run. Hamilton is also going for another outing, also on hard tyres.
15 min: Schumacher has of course dropped to 16th after that improvement from the young Spaniard.
15 min: Buemi, Sutil and Senna all come out, knowing that they need to find a lot more time after Alguersuari's recent effort.
14 min: You would think Alguersuari's time is safe, but as we see more laps he could still find himself in the fight to escape elimination.
14 min: Some of the midfield runners may need to consider the softer tyres now, with those down the order set to move forwards when they go to softs
13 min: Alguersuari moves up to eighth place with a lap of 1m21.978s.
13 min: Alguersuari is the first to bolt of the dropzone drivers. He is well inside the P17 time at the second check point.
12 min: Up front, a flying Vettel clocks 1m20.417s to put the benchmark well out of reach.
12 min: Sutil is just inside the top 17 at the moment and Buemi is 16th, with Schumacher 15th and needing to find more speed.
12 min: The Ferraris find more time, with Massa now ahead of Alonso in third and fourth.
12 min: Button also fails to improve his time and is still 12th.
11 min: Alguersuari is in the 18th place 'unlucky loser' position at the moment, joining Trulli, Kovalainen, Glock, di Grassi, Senna and Yamamoto in the dropzone.
11 min: Hamilton is a couple of tenths off his earlier best with his latest attempt but is still fourth quickest.
11 min: Alonso was looking set to improve but lost out with a slow run through the final corners.
10 min: Maasa hauls himself up to fifth quickest in a time of 1m21.638s.
10 min: Schumacher has slipped down to 15th and will be involved in a mighty scrap just to make it through to Q2 if he isn't careful.
10 min: Webber is now on top of the classification with 1m21.132s. Vettel now second, Barrichello third and Hamilton fourth.
10 min: Massa is down in ninth, with Button struggling to find the speed Hamilton has wrung from the McLaren down in 12th.
9 min: Barrichello posts the fastest middle sector of anyone, on his way to second place and 1m21.478s.
9 min: Kubica is now sixth despite an improved time of 1m21.811s.
9 min: Hamilton is the fastest man through the first sector and clocks a 1m21.549s for second quickest despite holding on to a major wobble.
8 min: Schumacher crosses the line and moves up to 10th place but is already falling back down the list.
8 min: All 24 drivers have posted a time and Schumacher is way down in 22nd position. He is on for an improvement this time round ...
7 min: Kubica is holding best-of-the-rest at the moment, but here comes Alonso's first time ...
7 min: Rosberg is up to fourth behind Kubica with a solid 1m22.387s.
7 min: Webber slots into second behind Vettel with 1m21.698s as Red Bull begins to establish its dominance.
7 min: The track is getting busy now and traffic is likely to be a factor, although at this stage they can complete several fast laps on the tyres.
6 min: Vettel takes over at the front with a lap of 1m21.360s ahead of the two Renault drivers.
6 min: Schumacher's first lap is only good enough for ninth with only 17 drivers having posted a time.
6 min: Kubica beats his team-mate on a second flyer - 1m22.309s is now the time to beat.
5 min: Hamilton slots in third quickest as an order begins to develop.
5 min: Webber is now second behind Petrov after his first effort - 1m22.786s as Petrov maintains his place at the top.
5 min: Petrov comes around again in 1m22.713s to stay on top for now.
