Lap 29: Sutil is quickly reaping the benefit of the clear circuit and sets his personal best lap of the race.
Lap 28: Adrian Sutil has stopped in the Force India from 18th position. He is now 36 seconds behind the rest of the field but at least has a clear circuit on which to push.
Lap 28: Button, fourth, continues to head fellow two-stopper Barrichello with the one-stoppers Raikkonen and Kovalainen close behind now losing ground to the flying Kobayashi.
Lap 27: Behind the top eight, Jarno Trulli is running ninth just ahead of Robert Kubica and Nico Rosberg. Nakajima is 12th and holding up Buemi.
Lap 27: Kobayashi is driving brilliantly in the Toyota and is now just 4.2 seconds behind Webber. He is on for a strong finish when the mix of strategies shake out later on.
Lap 26: With Hamilton out of the fray, Vettel is dominating up front and is now 7.6 seconds ahead of team-mate Webber.
Lap 25: The story for Alguersuari would appear to be that having missed his pit and stopped at Red Bull by accident, he then tried to lap slowly to get back in on the following lap, but unfortunately ran out of fuel. Alguersuari is out of the race.
Lap 25: Kobayashi is setting his best laps of the evening in third ahead of his single stop. The Japanese will have the potential disadvantage of needing to use the softer rubber for a lengthy stint to the end.
Lap 24: Rosberg is told over the team radio that Trulli is slow on the circuit after his stop and now would be the time to take some risks.
Lap 24: Raikkonen and Kovalainen are right with the Brawn pair. The world champions will be happy to have remained ahead of these one-stoppers.
Lap 24: Nico Rosberg is 11th after his first stop of the evening. He is on the back of Robert Kubica who is stuck behind Jarno Trulli.
Lap 23: Raikkonen is currently sixth, from Kovalainen seventh and the battle between those two is now critical for third in the constructors' standings.
Lap 23: Sebastien Buemi did come into the pits, stopped at the correct pitbox and rejoined with Rosberg maintaining track position in that battle for what was ninth and 10th before the stops.
Lap 22: One-stopper Kobayashi is up to third, ahead of Button and Barrichello.
Lap 22: The McLaren mechanincs try to find the problem as team principal Martin Whitmarsh tells Hamilton they can't risk a brake failure.
Lap 21: That brake problem has cost Hamilton dearly and leaves Red Bull in a comfortable one-two.
Lap 21: Hamilton is touring slowly in to the pits and is set to retire!
Lap 20: Jaime Alguersuari comes into the pits, but is amazingly hustled through out of the way of Vettel's impending stop! The Spaniard has stopped at the wrong pit.
Lap 20: The young German resumes with a bootfull over oversteer and is well out into the lead at Yas Marina.
Lap 19: Hamilton is told on the radio he may have a problem with his right rear brakes.
Lap 19: Vettel is due in this lap but has been setting great pace on light fuel.
Lap 19: Button rejoins and is immediately under attack from Kobayashi. Down the long back straight the Japanese uses his head and leaves the world champion to outbrake himself! Kobayashi is through and up to eighth, with Button ninth.
Lap 19: Mark Webber pits as Vettel is on course for the lead with the fastest lap.
Lap 18: Barrichello and Kubica rejoined following their first stop in 10th and 13th positions, sandwiching the all-Finnish battle between Raikkonen and Kovalainen.
Lap 18: Button resumes eighth, right into a scrap with one-stopper Kobayashi.
Lap 18: Hamilton resumes in clear air but will need to push extremely hard to prevent Vettel taking over the lead.
Lap 18: Lewis takes more of the harder tyres and resumes, as Button also pits.
Lap 17: Sebastien Buemi has pulled in a couple of tenths on Nico Rosberg in ninth over the last two laps. The gap is 1.3 seconds.
Lap 17: Rubens negotiates the tricky tunnel and resumes ahead of Raikkonen - critical as the Finn is one-stopping.
Lap 17: Fernando Alonso hasn't been able to make any inroads into Fisichella and runs almost three seconds behind the Ferrari. Grosjean is 18th, Alguersuari 19th and Sutil still running last.
Lap 17: Barrichello is the first man to pit, joined by Kubica.
Lap 16: Nakajima is 14th and over four seconds down on Kovalainen, with Liuzzi a similar distance behind the Williams. Fisichella is 16th and ever-so-slowly catching the Force India driver.
Lap 16: Hamilton responds to the Red Bull pressure with his best lap of the race as the first stops approach.
Lap 15: The gaps are extending down the field behind the leaders,=. Kobayashi in 11th is now a massive 9.2 seconds behind Buemi. Raikkonen is almost four seconds behind the Toyota, with Kovalainen in 13th and now definitely saving fuel, some three seconds behind the Ferrari.
