Stats: Hamilton emulates Fangio, Vettel nears Lauda

RACE

• Sebastian Vettel took his 30th victory, ticking some more boxes in his collection. This was his first win in Germany and the first in the month of July. It was also his first win in a European race for nearly two years, his last coming at the 2011 Italian GP, in September. Among the races on this year's calendar he hasn't won at Austin or at the Hungaroring.

• Vettel matched Lewis Hamilton for podium finishes, with 52, to go joint-11th on the all-time place. Next target is Niki Lauda with 54.

• Kimi Raikkonen took his fourth podium finish since winning in Australia: he has finished second twice to Vettel (Bahrain, Germany) and twice to Alonso (China, Spain). He trails both drivers in the championship standings.

• Lotus, and its previous incarnation, Renault, hadn't finished on the podium here since 2006, when Alonso was second. It got both cars on the rostrum here, behind Vettel, a repeat of the Bahrain GP top three.

• Romain Grosjean put an end to his worst pointless streak - four races - of the past two seasons. He led for the first time this year, increasing the number of 2013 race leaders to 13, the same number as the whole 2012 season.

• Fernando Alonso posted his 20th career fastest lap. It was a long-awaited one, the Spaniard going 38 races - since Silverstone 2011 - to do it. Ferrari's drought started after Hungary in 2011 (Felipe Massa) and lasted for 36 races, the longest since Canada 1991-Argentina 1995, when the red cars missed out on the fastest race lap for 62 consecutive GPs.

• Jenson Button scored points for the 130th time in his career. He lies fourth on the all-time list, with 10 to go to reach Rubens Barrichello at 140. Lewis Hamilton scored for the 90th time, matching Ralf Schumacher at 13th on the list.

• Lewis Hamilton has gone 10 races without a win, equalling his worst career drought, recorded from the 2008 Brazilian GP, which gave him his first drivers' title, to the 2009 German GP.

• Sergio Perez started his ninth race for McLaren and is still looking for his first podium for the team. It's a rare occurrence in the McLaren camp, as in the past 20 years only two drivers fared worse: Michael Andretti in 1993 and Mark Blundell in 1995. Andretti climbed on the podium in his 13th race for McLaren, while Mark Blundell didn't finish in the top-three in his 15 races for the team in 1995. In 2005, Juan-Pablo Montoya took a podium for McLaren at his ninth attempt, winning at Silverstone. The other drivers who didn't score podiums for McLaren in this timespan are Philippe Alliot (1994) and Jan Magnussen (1995) - both stand-ins - and Nigel Mansell, substituted in 1995 after two races.

• Paul di Resta saw his best streak of races in the points (six) come to an end, with 11th place. He was passed by Nico Hulkenberg two laps from the end.

• For the first time in his career, Felipe Massa retired in a race run in Germany: thus far he had finished seven times at the Nurburgring and seven at Hockenheim.

QUALIFYING

• Lewis Hamilton posted his 29th pole, the same number as Juan Manuel Fangio - equal seventh on the all-time list. For the first time since he joined Mercedes, Lewis took back-to-back poles and gave the German team its 15th pole, the same as Benetton, to go equal-eighth on the all-time list.

However, for the sixth consecutive time though, Lewis failed to turn the pole spot into a win. He has taken only one podium spot (in Montreal) from his past five front-row starts, from Barcelona onwards.

• For the first time Sebastian Vettel started from the front row at the Nurburgring and, also for the first time, was able to outqualify Mark Webber here. For the 17th time Vettel shared the front row with Lewis Hamilton. It's almost a lucky set-up for Seb, as 10 times out of 17 he came out as the race winner (Hamilton only five).

• Kimi Raikkonen qualified in the top 10 for the 15th straight race, matching a personal best set in 2006, from Malaysia to China.

• Romain Grosjean recorded his best grid spot of the season with fifth.

• For the first time in his career Daniel Ricciardo started from the top-10 in back-to-back races. He would have made it three in a row, but in Canada he was demoted to 11th after a penalty.

• Toro Rosso has nailed four straight races in the top 10, the second-best sequence for the team - in 2008 it started from the top 10 in seven consecutive races (Europe-Brazil).

• In the past two events, Fernando Alonso notched up his two worst qualifying results of the season: eighth in Germany and ninth in Britain. Ferrari has gone a full year without starting from pole, its last coming at Hockenheim last year.

• Nico Hulkenberg and Sauber were back in the top 10 for the first time since the Chinese GP.

• Nico Rosberg and Mercedes were dropped in Q2 for the first time this year. Mercedes was the last team to have had both cars qualify in the top-10 for every race so far this year.

• Force India missed a top-10 grid spot for the first time in five events.

• Sergio Perez is the first McLaren driver to miss the top 10 in three consecutive races since Heikki Kovalainen in the last three races of 2009.
