Warm-up: Good and bad for Audi

The Abt Sportsline Audi of Mattias Ekstrom convincingly set the pace in the warm-up ahead of today's penultimate round of the DTM at Zandvoort in Holland, the Swede ending the session a tenth of a second clear of Opel's Peter Dumbreck

Warm-up: Good and bad for Audi

The big news of the session, however, was that Audi Junior driver Martin Tomczyk, who will start today's race from the front row, slammed his TT-R comprehensively into the tyrewall at the Hugenholtz hairpin, leaving the Abt crew with a lot of work to do. He lost control under braking and hit the tyres with both the front and rear of the car.

Following a red flag for the incident, there was more woe for Abt as its reigning champion, Laurent Aiello, ground to a smoky halt in the closing stages of the session.

Behind Dumbreck, Opel's pole star of yesterday, Timo Scheider, was third fastest, ahead of local hero Christijan Albers (Mercedes), Tomcyzk (who was quick before he shunted), and a trio of AMG Mercedes featuring Marcel Fassler, Bernd Schneider and Jean Alesi. Manuel Reuter (Opel) and Aiello rounded out the top 10.
