Warm-up: Audis promise strong race pace

Audi has promised much ahead of the sixth round of the DTM at Donington Park this weekend, but blew its qualifying chances in Saturday's Super Pole shoot-out. It bounced back in the Sunday morning warm-up, however, with Swedish star Mattias Ekstrom setting the pace

Ekstrom lapped in 1m29.404s, a tenth clear of Abt Sportsline team-mate Laurent Aiello. They will start today's race from third and fourth on the grid respectively, but the men they have to worry about, AMG Mercedes stars Bernd Schneider and Jean Alesi, were only fourth and sixth fastest this morning.

Series leader Christijan Albers was third fastest this morning, just a fraction slower than Aiello's time. Scotland's Peter Dumbreck was fifth fastest as he continues to fly the Opel flag alone at the sharp end of the field.

Behind Alesi, Martin Tomczyk (Audi), Marcel Fassler (Mercedes) and Manuel Reuter (Opel) were joined in the top 10 by the year-old Mercedes of Thomas Jager, no doubt spurred into action after being outqualified again by Britain's Gary Paffett yesterday.

Today's race starts at 12:00 local time (BST).
