Thompson unlikely to race
James Thompson will almost certainly not make his DTM debut at Oschersleben on Sunday after engine problems left him stranded in the garage for qualifying
The Audi driver only managed a few laps in Saturday morning's free practice and was ruled out of qualifying when his team could not fire up his engine.
"I'm disappointed because I was actually quite looking forward to qualifying," he said. "I had plenty of new tyres and, although I would not have done anything amazing, I think it would have been good fun."
Despite his disappointment at a frustrating weekend beset by technical problems, Thompson has no regrets about getting involved with the DTM series.
"This is a great series, with great cars and a wonderful spectacle," he added. "I see no reason why I should not be here and I am looking forward to my next race.
"There is great potential with the Audi, but we do need more mileage. It's like going fishing and not putting your hook in the water: you are not going to catch any fish that way. I am not going to go fast here if I don't get in my car."
