Reuter takes pole at Oschersleben
Manuel Reuter grabbed pole position for the second round of the DTM at Oschersleben during an action-packed qualifying session on Saturday
The Opel driver did not set a time until 43 minutes into the hour long session, but his first flying lap of one minute 25.21 seconds was good enough for pole position.
Opel lived up to their pre-event optimism by securing the top four places on the grid. Michael Bartels will start from second place on the grid, just 0.180 seconds off pole, ahead of Jo Winkelhock and Eric Helary.
DTM series leader Bernd Schneider was the leading Mercedes driver, securing fifth place on the grid.
The competitiveness of the championship was proved as just hundredths of a second separated many drivers. The top 13 drivers were covered by less than one second.
British drivers Peter Dumbreck and Darren Turner had a disappointing session. Dumbreck took 13th place on the grid, with Turner down in 16th.
James Thompson, making his DTM debut in the Abt Audi, failed to set a time after sitting out the qualifying session. It is not known yet whether he will start Sunday's races.
