Scheider retained by Opel
Timo Scheider has re-signed with Opel for a fifth season in the DTM, completing the marque's six driver line-up in the German-based touring car series
Opel has added several high-profile drivers during the winter, with former F1 star Heinz-Harald Frentzen, former DTM champion Laurent Aiello and Mercedes star Marcel Fassler all signing with the team. Peter Dumbreck and Manuel Reuter have already been re-signed by the team.
"The extension of my contract with Opel wasn't self-evident," said Scheider. "Therefore, I am all the more happy that it has worked out and that I will be able to race again for Opel this season."
Opel motorsport manager Volker Strycek said: "Now that we have finalised our driver line-up, we have finished an important phase in preparation for the coming season. The current team is certainly the strongest ever to have competed for Opel in touring car racing.
"Now, our priority is finalising the new Opel Vectra GTS V8, our race car for the coming DTM season. Development is running very well, everything is going as planned."
Scheider is expected to start the season in a year-old Astra Coupe. Opel's other drivers have all been guaranteed a new Vectra for this season. The announcement also means that Alain Menu will not be retained by the squad.
