Saelens confirmed as Lamy replacement
Formula 3000 ace David Saelens will replace Pedro Lamy in the Rosberg Mercedes team in the DTM from this weekend's third round at Oschersleben
The 25-year-old tested at Hockenheim earlier this week, and will continue to contest the FIA F3000 series with the European Minardi team. He takes Lamy's place as the Portuguese driver felt his 2000-specification car didn't have the potential to win races.
"It's a great challenge for me to participate in the DTM," said Saelens. "The races are on a very high sporting level and I will have the opportunity to compete with the best touring car drivers.
"I thank Mercedes-Benz that they believe in me and I will justify their trust by my performance. I also want to thank my F3000 team owner Paul Stoddart, who agreed to this engagement and made it possible for me to participate in the DTM as well as in the F3000 championship."
Mercedes' motorsport boss Norbert Haug said: "David is a promising young driver. He is suited to our line-up of experienced drivers and young talents. In this team he has the chance to make a further mark for himself in this sport."
