Oval racing back in Europe
Oval racing is set to return to Europe when the DTM series races at the new Lausitzring oval later on this year
It was thought that the sixth round of the championship would be run on the road course of the new complex built in the former East Germany, so the news that the oval track would be used came as a surprise.
But English DTM driver Darren Turner is looking forward to racing at the tri-oval track. "I think it's going to be pretty cool," said the Mercedes driver. "The oval is going to be a new experience for every driver. We'll all be at the same level so it will be really exciting."
Turner will be looking to friends in the States to see if they can give him any hints for oval racing. "I know touring car racing is different to single-seater racing, but I think some of the principles will be the same so I'll be speaking to Dario [Franchitti] to see if he has any advice!"
The DTM race at Lausitzring is set for Sunday, September 3. The first race in the championship will be held at Hockenheim on Sunday, May 28.
