Grapevine: Mercedes to auction Paffett's car

Mercedes-Benz is going to auction off a DTM racing car for the benefit of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation

The C-Class car, the one raced by Gary Paffett during the 2007 season, will be signed by several celebrities such as Boris Becker, Franziska van Almsick and Niki Lauda.

The minimum bidding price amounts to €300,000.

"Everybody at Mercedes-Benz is delighted with having the chance of making another significant contribution to supporting the 'Laureus for Good Foundation' by auctioning off the 'Laureus AMG Mercedes C-Class'," said Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug on the DTM website.

"With this move, our motor-racing involvement supports unprivileged children and juveniles. The revenues of the auction will be used for the benefit of important sports projects worldwide. Since the foundation was created, more than 130,000 children have already been supported.

"Quite obviously, we hope to achieve an amount clearly higher than the minimum bidding price amounting to €300,000.

"Every additional Euro will help to start new 'Laureus Sport for Good Foundation' projects and keep on supporting those already existing."
