Gary Paffett tops DTM warm-up at Brands Hatch

Gary Paffett set out his stall for the Brands Hatch DTM race by setting the fastest time in warm-up

The who will start the race from the front row - hit the front after seven minutes with a lap of 42.822 seconds, knocking his HWA Mercedes team-mate Ralf Schumacher off the top in the process.

Martin Tomczyk worked his way up to second place - 0.014s behind Paffett - by the end of the session, the Phoenix Audi driver being the best of those in older-spec machinery. Timo Scheider's newer Abt A4 was third.

Schumacher fell to fourth by the end with his other team-mates Jamie Green and Bruno Spengler fifth and eighth. Between the latter HWA drivers were the older Mucke Mercedes of David Coulthard and Maro Engel.

Mattias Ekstrom (Abt Audi) and Christian Vietoris (Persson Mercedes) completed the top 10.

Once again the field was separated by a tiny margin. Just 0.3s covered the gap from Paffett back to the 16th placed Abt car of Miguel Molina.
