Estoril 2: Frentzen fastest
Opel continued its strong start to the DTM season by keeping its place at the top of the timesheets on the second day of the first official test of the season in Estoril, Portugal
This time it was Opel's new boy, ex-Formula 1 driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who set the quickest time in his OPC Team Holzer car on what turned out to be a perfect debut for the German.
He said: "Everything went according to plan in the test. It was a very good opportunity to collect and evaluate data. It's very interesting for me in this first common test to see the race drivers from the other teams."
Frentzen's time of 1m35.015s was 0.353s quicker than that set by team-mate Manuel Reuter, who had been quickest on the first day of the test.
Opel also had Laurent Aiello out again, and the Frenchman went quicker than he had on Monday, but still only ended up fourth. Marcel Tiemann was seventh in his Vectra.
Frentzen's fellow ex-F1 racer Jean Alesi ended up second quickest, the best of the Mercedes runners in his new C-Class machine. He too went quicker than he had on Monday, bettering his time by almost 0.3s.
Martin Tomczyk was the best of the Audi runners in third, just 0.42s behind Alesi. Mercedes CLK driver Markus Winkelhock was ninth out of the nine Tuesday runners on his first day of official testing.
