Entry list is almost finalised

The signing of Alain Menu and Hubert Haupt by Opel's Euroteam squad has all-but-finalised the 22-strong 2001 DTM line up

Just one seat remains at Opel for a V8 Coupe alongside its lead driver Manuel Reuter at Phoenix. The car's specification is also undecided, depending on the amount of sponsorship that can be raised.

The only seat available at Mercedes, alongside Thomas Jager at the 2000-spec CLK-equipped Persson squad, seems destined for Minardi test driver Christijan Albers. The Dutchman tested for the marque in Spain last month and is expected to sign imminently.

Today (Tuesday) at Hockenheim is the first time that 2001 cars from Mercedes and Opel have tested together. The Three Pointed Star's reigning champion Bernd Schneider is expected to go head-to-head with 2000 rival Manuel Reuter.

Opel, meanwhile, hopes to sell another 2000-spec car to a privateer, which would increase the grid to 23 cars.
