Alesi returns to scene of '02 victory
Former F1 star Jean Alesi is relishing the prospect of a return to Donington Park this weekend, the scene of his first, and thus far only, DTM race win
AMG Mercedes star Alesi is seventh in the championship coming into Donington, and is hoping to recapture some of the form that led to his famous win last year.
"Coming to Donington is something very special for me," said Alesi, "And not just because of the beautiful race track and my first DTM win there last year. When I am there, I always visit the racing car museum of circuit owner Tom Wheatcroft. It has some fascinating treasures. I am happy to race at the track owned by this gentleman - he likes racing just like I do."
Alesi believes the second half of the season will be better than the first.
"I am getting to grips with the 2003 AMG Mercedes CLK better and better," he said. "At the Norisring, I missed my possible first podium finish of the year only due to my jump start. I would be very glad if I could make up for it in Donington. I like the atmosphere and I have a lot of fans there. The fast corners at the back of the track are particularly challenging."
